Congratulate Joe whose submitted item will appear in the Loyalhanna Review (Ligonier Valley Writers Group publication). It was developed from a prompt at one of our earlier meetings. When asked if members want to continue the group in 2007, all were in favor. Members discussed the uniqueness of the group and its direction for 2007. The BW Group is unique in several ways. First, its been invited to support two other writing groups, one in a high rise building and one a specialty group. Second, it is the only local writers group that has developed a blog. Third, the blog enables persons who cannot attend meetings to participate in the Beanery Writers Group. It also encourages visitors to the blog, including children, to comment, write prompts or submit writings.Members decided the above activities should continue. They would also like to do more critiquing and to create a booklet of our writings by Thanksgiving 2007. A similar booklet was produced by the former Foothills Writers Group. Although our group is small they decided to develop all four activities. Members can participate in the activity(ies) which are appropriate for them. The blog has had 4452 hits since it started Aug. 28. Members participate at their own comfort and ability level---the object is to learn a more about this communication tool and its use in writing. Carolyn offered to individually tutor members wanting to develop their blog skills. Members with little interest in the new technology can E-mail submissions to Carolyn for posting. Other more skillful members can submit items on their own.The blog allows members to post writings that would otherwise not be published; a place to show samples of our work; a tool to inform each other and visitors of our activities; an outreach for writers unable to physically participate in a writing group, and a forum for visitors and children to participate in both a writers group and a blog. Most non-writers aren’t heading for publication. If members know about a neat writing by someone, ask if they’d let you post it on the blog. Get permission to use their first name or a tag name. When the item is posted, E-mail them. Include the website in the body of the E-mail for their convenience. Comment on the postings, especially by visitors, for their encouragement.Encourage children to write by posting their writings---perhaps we need to set up a Children’s Category. To keep our hit numbers, we need to post a NOTE every day (comments don’t show up in the top ten on the ProBlogs web page). Computer savvy members should check daily for new postings, and be prepared to add one if the beanerywriters falls into the bottom five of the top ten posts.Computer savvy members should maintain a bank of three items (not headed for publication) for posting. Three types of posting are educational, personal writing and visitor submissions. Educational: writing hints, ideas etc, should be posted under “Notes for Visitors and Members.” Personal writings: an adventure or event you’ve experienced, or a writing in your genre, etc., should be posted under the name of the writer. Visitor contributions: post under Visitor Writings.Items need not be long, perhaps 3-5 paragraphs (especially writing hints). Short items are best. However, being a writers group, we should be concerned with the quality of the writing. Edit the work for errors before posting it. Notes on our discssion will be posted at a later date. I'll be in Harrisburg next week, without access to the internet. Look for the discussion after that.Carolyn This Blog Post has been read 1 times.
