Pulp FictionBy buckeye(156) "Pulp Fiction" is another one of my favorite films. I like Tarantino’s work in this film more than any other he’s done so far. I think one of the reasons it’s so great is because of the film editor he had on his crew, Sally Menke. For a movie that is based on three different plots that are intertwined together through random events (or unrandom, whichever way you look at it) the editors role is just as crucial as the director. This movie was an original masterpiece and to keep on this ongoing theme about the movies I’ve blogged about, it is a genre mixer. The movie intertwines the three different plots together like three different genres. With the Vincent and Jules plot we have this crime/hitmen genre intermixed with a divine intervention with Jules. Then there’s the dichotomy of Jules and Vincent’s acceptance of divine intervention. Jules accepts God’s sign and gives up the hitman profession, while Vincent ignores it and reaps the repercussions. But then again, some people might disagree with this interpretation, but that’s what’s great about this movie; it’s ambiguous and everyone can form their own opinion about it. People can debate over what was in the briefcase (my personal opinion, I like the theory that it was Marsellus’ soul).
