The Martin Anderson Case

By DrAbuelo(2,706)

For those of us who live in New York, we have been bombarded with the news of   the shooting of the 23 old groom Sean Bell and his friends by five police officers outside a strip bar in Queens. There are now many questions surrounding the shooting, not the least of is why the officers shot 50 times at the group of young black and unarmed males. In fact, the case has also received some about amount of national attention as well but, what has not made the news is the case of Martin Anderson.

Martin Anderson was a 14 year old teen who had lived in Florida when he was sent to boot camp in Hillsborough County by the Florida juvenile court system which found him guilty of committing some miner crimes . Shortly after he arrived on January 5th, he was surrounded by 7 police instructors and one camp nurse. The eight employees proceeded in beating the young African American male until he passed out. The next day Anderson died from the trauma he received from the beating. The original report from the local coroner's office listed the death as a blood disorder but, thanks to a video of the beating and nearly one year of police investigations, the 7 ex-instructors have been arrested but the nurse is yet to be charged. The case forced governor Jeb Bush to close all of Florida's state run boot camps.

While Martin's family has come out as being satisfied that their son has finally gotten justice the question must still remain as how such an attack came to be in the first place. The question itself is rhetorical but, must be asked nonetheless. Like Sean Bell, Anderson was a young black male killed before he could reach the prime of his life. While the lynching of African Americans is certainly nothing new, it is an issue that the media and politicians tend to shy away from. One possible reason might have to do with the large number of cases involving police officers. There seems to be a sense in the United States that any action the authorities take is always justified, look at the Rodney King beating or the Amadou  Diallo case. Not one officer has been charged in either of those cases. With the Amadou Diallo shooting, the police changed their story three times. But, there are a few differences with the Martin Anderson beating. First, he was so young, 14 in fact. Second, he was already in custody at the time of the beating. And third, Anderson was assaulted less than a day after his arrival at the boot camp.

Perhaps the worst part of the lynching was by the media outside Florida. On a national level, there seemed to be a virtual media blackout of the case. Such cover ups tend to be common but, at this point, unlike the before mentioned cases, there are officers who are not going to walk free this time around. And perhaps thats the bigger story. For more on this story check out the links below. Until next time.

I to know what the Anderson family going through, because my mother died in prison for not getting the proper treatment. Althought we may not here about, these types of acses happen all the time, because we the people don't do anything about it. It is time for peopke to stand up and protect their love ones no matter what their past hold. THEY NEED TO BE STOPPED!!!!!!!!!!

Martin Anderson did not die of a beating. Neither the first nor the second autopsy came to that conclusion. For a medical evaluation of this case see: http://www.billoblog.com/?p=271

To William Oliver: this is an older article. I used what was being reported on at the time.

It's an outrage! Michael Vick could face prison time for killing a dog & when it's a 14 year old black boy being killed...NOTHING! It's a mockery of the Justice system just as it was in the Emmett Till Case.

God help America when a dog is more valuable than a human life. The jurors in this case clearly is a joke & should never serve on a jury again. Anyone can see from the video the child was beaten to death. It is a horrifying thing to see a child being killed before your eyes and it's more chilling when adult jurors ignore it just because he was born a black male!

How long will it be before our government see the injustice here...how long!

These evil wicked murderers need to pay!

what I don't understand is why the government or state let guy tunnel open all those boots camps without any kind of regulations. Seems like the guards could carry any kind of justice they felt like. The tape showed how they abused and aggravated that child to his death. Even when he was dying in front of their eyes, those fools continued to prevent him from breathing, then not guilty was the verdict. When is this brutality on children going to stop. While we cant bring him back, let's hope those guards and the nurse get some kind of punishment from the federal side, although I wont be surprise if nothing happens, and they carry on with their lives like nothing happened. They were not trained to deal with children, many of those children are neglected by parents, Martin's parents didn't want to deal with him anymore for the crimes he was committing, they give up on their little son too early, lots of people are to blame in this case. The citizens could've questioned the boot camps all around Florida, and ask how come programs like after school, counseling and job training, was not set up for troubled teens such as Martin. The government don't want to help children, they want to send them off to be abused and murdered. the mother could've also told the truth and state his medical condition so the child could get some other alternative help like some a residential program for trouble teens, where he could continue his education and be rewarded for good behavior and at the same time get a counselor or therapist to discuss his problems, not send him off to be killed by those murderers and they are getting on with their lives and living free.

I don't care what measures are carried out now, a child was killed, precaution could've been done from start one, when you are dealing with troubled youth, sometimes the children don't even know what they are doing because you have to go back from pregnancy, was the mother abused herself, was she a smoker or a drinker when she was pregnant. I'm not blaming the mother here, but how can a parent send their child or children to be raised by this racist governmental set up programs. Parents have to try with the children and not give so easily. Strangers will not take care of your child, they will judge them, ridicule them as they did with Martin, they blamed him as a gang member and a thief. Sometimes you have to let that child be your number one priority and be there constantly to that child's needs, that's the role of a parent. We in society forget too easily and a couple of years down the line, some atrocity is going to be committed towards some child again, when Martin's death is long gone and forgotten. These boot camps are just another name for concentration camps for black teenager boys and girls.I would take my child out of the country first before I commit him to any boot camp, you cant even trust teachers these days, furthermore trust uneducated, ignorant guards in uniform to discipline your children, one look at those guards and I would've tail-gated out of that place. The mother trusted what they told her and was on their side when she dropped off her son there. She did not listen to her son, he was hurting inside, that's why he was committing crimes, you must be there every second of the day and night for your children, now that poor child is dead and all the people that created these hell hole programs and pay their mortgage by abusing children gone on to other jobs because they have the support from other officials, its not about helping kids, its about getting rid of them.
