The War Bush WonBy DrAbuelo(2,637) Iraq is in a civil war, Shiites and Sunnis are killing each other in a wave violence that has reached new heights. The U.S. military is just another militia in Iraq and every coroner in the country is forced to work over time. Due to the sewage that has leaked into so much of the drinking water there are several out breaks of diseases that have long been wiped out in first world nations and, of coarse, the Iraqi people receive 12 hours of electricity a day, if they are lucky. Fathers and brothers are forced to escort the women of their family every where they go to avoid them being raped or kidnapped or even killed while ordinary citizens are being shot to death in their own beds. Children are being blown in half and finally torture is alive and well in Iraq's prison system. Did I forget anything? Ah yes, things are getting better and victory is at hand. This Orwellian thinking is the praedium that we are being sold every on national television and in most news papers from sea to shining sea. This is the victory that the Bush administration has actually one. Without president, they have been able to shape the language of the debate concerning the war in Iraq to the point that even those who claim that they're on the left tend to form their argument according to the ridiculous frame work created by the GOP. The leading argument by Democrats against pulling now is that the country will spin out of control. The problem is, the country has spun out control along time ago and civil war that we are now seeing was a forgone conclusion before the first bomb was dropped in March 2003. Those of us who have studied the history of the region were saying that the U.S. would win the initial battle but, would never win the peace. There was even an article in the Village voice that stated as much, entitled, "We Will Win The War But, Can We Win THe Peace." Forget the U.S. had no intention to win the hearts or minds of the Iraqi people, The country is not a monolith, it is made up of several tribes that forced to live together due to the 1938 carving up of the region. And bad blood has been created between tribes, ranging from the Hashemite Sunnis who allowed the British to keep such a tight grip over the country for so many decades to the Baathists who took over the rule of Baghdad in 1959 under the nationalist movement of Abdel Al Qasim. Like it or not, Saddam was the only thing keeping order in Iraq. I this not to say what he did was correct, far from it but, the country as been a pressure cooker for many decades. Now we have Charlie Rangel's proposal for a draft. His argument is that, it's mostly the under privileged and highly exploited that are the ones fighting in Iraq which is true but, misses one important point. That is, it fails to ask the question if the war should have been fought in the first place. It also leaves out any argument of impeaching a president who lied about the reasons he gave for going into war. in fact, it lets Bush off the hook and hands him the body, minds and souls of even more impoverished would be students. George Bush has already demonstrated that he will never think twice about any action he takes. You have John Kerry's, fighting the right war the right way, lets not even get into nonsensical avenue. But, perhaps what's worse of all is that the media has helped the white house control the debate. From Fox news to NBC, the language is straight from the Pentagon. So, in the end, we now stand as the unfortunate witnesses to the war that Bush actually won. For more check out the link below.
