Daybreak is creepyBy SLCBlog(110) Daybreak is one of the most popular developments in the Salt Lake city area, however in my opinion it is just plain creepy. First of all, it is inconveniently located at 11200 S. and Bang-Bang (which is know as Bangerter Highway to you that didn't grow up on the West Side). From downtown Salt Lake it is about a 45 minute drive, and is easily over an hour during rush hour. The promoters of this thing call it the "West Bench," a term that they made up to make it sound nice. The Daybreak homeowners are so proud of there lil' slice of heaven that they are surely clamoring to the Daybreak official website to buy official Daybreak merchandise such as t-shirts and visors. So, what kind of people would want to live so far from civilization? Creepy Mormons, that's who! Now, some people may read my posts and think that I don't like Mormons. This couldn't be farther from the truth. I was born and raised Mormon, and I generally respect the religion and it's followers a great deal. That said, the Mormons that live in Daybreak are the kind that want their neighbors to be just like them and their kids to be raised in a bubble.
The Daybreak neighborhoods are so sterile and over-planned that it appears almost fake. The houses surround an artificial lake and are carefully made to look "unique," each one painted a different bright color. In reality the houses are all very similar and blur together. You can easily get lost in Daybreak because each street looks just like the next. Daybreak is basically what the whole world might look like if the Nazis won the war. The homeowners association is one of the most anal-retentive in the Salt Lake Valley. For example, if you want to sell or rent your own house you have to buy a Daybreak approved sign from the association and follow strict guidelines as to how and where you can place the sign. If you are politically active you may want to stay clear, you can only post two political signs and there is also rules as to where, when, and how these can be displayed. You can have free speech, but just a little...Don't want any hippies about.
The whole place reminds me of Stepford Wives- all the perfect families and homes, and yards. I imagine there is a lot of keeping up with the Jones's with cars and boats and other useless junk...Hey, they do have storage for boats and RVs, this activity is practically encouraged in the bylaws! I am 100% positive that the community has the smallest percentage of minorities and non-LDS than any other area of Salt Lake city. This is exactly why these people overspend to buy one of these 3 bedroom 2.5 bath abominations. Diversity in your community is frowned on when you are trying to give your innocent and pure children a sheltered life-The only problem with this logic is that these kids grow up and they don't know how to face the realities of this world when they actually come face-to-face with it. The LDS church has declared that they will build a temple in the area, which has the locals giddy. I have heard several comments like, wow that is really going to increase the property values there. Never mind that there are 7 other temples within 30 minutes of Daybreak. There is basically a temple in EVERY part of Salt Lake and the surrounding areas...But Daybreakers see the church's announcement as a sign from heaven that they have made a wise home purchase. Maybe the whole Daybreak clan should just build a high wall around there perfect little world and change the sign out front to "The Celestial Kingdom." This Blog Post has been read 6 times.
