Chinese Myths and Legends-The Synthesism arts by Li Xinping(b 1959)By CatherineYen(20,979) ![]() ![]() **![]() Title:Love Sickness Tree (circa 2006) Title: The Blue Apple (circa 2007) Private collection private collection published in the cover of Asian Arts News July/Aug Issue, 2007 Chinese Myths and Legends-The Synthesism , Art of Li, XinPing (b. 1959) The artists, Li Xinping was born in Beijing in 1959, he prusued a degree in Fine Arts at Henan University, graduated in 1982 with top honours. He took up postgraduate studies in 1985 at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. In 1993, he attended St. Petersburg Art Academy in Russia for further postgraduate studies. Li has been a member of Chinese Artists Association since 1994, he is a full time artist in Beijing, his numberous exhibitions in Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Philippines, Spain and Canada were most welcomed by its unique techniques and colors. His works are recognized and has been selected to represent Beijing in both national and international exhibitions. He has the rare ability to enrapture the viewer with his work, weaving the influences of Chinese folk culture, legends, drama, traditional customs, astrology and literature into a tapestry of vivid imagery that resonates with something deeply personal. Li Xinping is an artist with passion about Chinese traditiional culture, he adopts western painting technique to represent the richness and profundity of Chinese culture. His inspirations also come from Voltaire, and influential French philosopher, whose works incorporated Lao-tsu's philosophical concepts. Li has done the reverse, he applied western painting technique and aesthetic taste to narrate Chinese literature, looking for alternative angles to present Chinese culture. In his paintings, Li blurs the line between reality and the artist's world which allows the viewer to wander through imagination, encountering with the Chinese myths and legends. Li has several monumental paintings gifted with dynamics and power, each painting is independent by itself but also also mutually enhancing. Li Xinping comments: "An artist's style of painting is an amalgam of experiences and cultural heritage. The influence of the culture is multi-faceted and multi-layered, an ocean of varying depths, in constant motion, ebbing and flowing. Out of this constant swirl of motion and thought, mixing and re-mixing in the artist, often comes a new unique vision. The most brilliant artists exemplify this ability to absorb everything around them and then to reform and redefine. My work also attempts to combine eastern and western elements. To some, tradition my mean old, following past precepts, ignoring the present. But that is a blinkered view because tradition is part of the dynamic process of creation, providing a vital link with history and cultural identity. While giving the artist a base, it does not inhibit his growth. History and tradition are not solid and immutable but make up a part of the artist's flow and energy. I want to harness the skills and techniques of modern art to depict the classical beauty of music, dance and Chinese culture." Although the galleries or collectors said Li's painting is an impressionist style, but thru his profound painting technique, I would rather said his painting is synthesist or expressionist which bring to mind a distinctive echo of works of past masters. His painting presented offer unadorned beauty to share with the world. This Blog Post has been read 229 times.
