Battle For A Fair Prize

Battle For A Fair Prize
by James F. Dinsmore

After a hard journey from the wild woods,
Two elven brothers were glad to be home again.
Longear's sword was drenched in blood
And more spells did Halfear need to gain.

The brothers were greeted with jolly
For they had destroyed many trolls.
They both spied a wench named Polly
And each of them wanted a roll.

Polly smiled at Longear's hard-worn muscles
While Halfear impressed her with his knowlege.
Among the crowd there was a worried rustle
And the brothers soon became on edge.

Longear was the first to swing his blade
At his brother's own heart in all his rage.
Not one of the crowd went to his aid
And many bets amongst them were wage.

Halfear stumbled back in mock surprise
For he knew his brother's fiery temper.
So began another battle for a fair prize
And the crowd cheered on the pair.

Polly disappeared during the fight
But no one noticed it until too late.
The brothers spent the rest of the night
Vomiting up firewater on their plates.
