DETOURS AND LIFE Lent Devotion #3

Scripture: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 (NRSV)

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 (NRSV)

Reflection: Soon after obtaining my driver’s license I went for a ride alone to prove my ability and confidence. Driving down an unfamiliar country road I suddenly came across a very complex construction site having numerous markers and flagmen. It was impossible to see how to maneuver through the maze.

My first reaction was panic, but I had no choice but to keep going. As I drove through each section of the detour, the next became visible and the route was clearly marked.

I often think how much like life this situation is. Often a problem will occur that seems to have no way through it, but if we trust in God he will guide us through life’s confusing and frightening times.

We never need to panic. As the hymn says, “God will take care of you---through every day, o’er all the way.”

Prayer: Father, we pray we will daily turn to you for direction in our lives. Amen.
