The Beanery Writers Group blog is doing well, but needs to take a new step to increase "circulation," because circulation (in the case of blogs, "hits") is an indication of readership---something all writers seek! At the February 23 meeting I committed myself to researching ways to increase our blog traffic, and said I would research ways to accomplish this. One of the consistent suggestions to increase blog traffic is to join a blogring. Ok, so I did a search on blogrings and decided to try Xanga.com, since it was at the top of the Yahoo search list. I filled out the "application" and set up a site. I inserted five beanery members as "invitees," plus my own E-mail, to conclude the application. Click on http://www.xanga.com/Carolynch to check out the blogring. The following is the introduction I inserted: The Beanery Writers Group is a small, eclectic group where members offer each other support, critique, direction and writing opportunities. We meet twice monthly in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Having different genres offers members an opportunity to gain experience in different types of writing. Our main interest is posting quality writing. The group is unique in having a blog www.ProBlogs.com/beanerywriters where writings from members and guests are posted. Since August we’ve become the #1 site at ProBlogs.com and have accumulated over 15,000 hits---during February 2007 we averaged 135 hits daily. Our goal now is to reach 200 hits a day. We are researching/analyzing ways to increase traffic to our blog, and any help Xanga blogring members can provide will be helpful. Click on www.ProBlogs.com/beanerywriters to experience our Beanery Writers Group blog and perhaps discover routes we can take to increase traffic. As I indicated, we are open to suggestions! Readers can choose from the variety of writings: serious (holocaust survivor); fun (writings by a cockroach with his own category, Cochran's Writings); pet stories; children's writings; travel pieces (New England, under Carolyn Travels) and/or poetry. Peruse member bios and meeting minutes. Visitors to the site are invited to contribute posts and comments. Directions are in the welcome message at the top of the blog site. Submissions may also be E-mailed to beaneryblog@yahoo.com Please put “blog submissions” in the subject line!
Carolynch is the leader of the group. Her background includes human service work (family day care, abuse prevention and healing), photojournalism and craft design/production. Currently she is working on a historical romance novel---time era 1786-1845. Other Beanery Writers Group members will be comment on this blogring through our membership. We expect to hear from other members of this blogring. Carolyn: It will be interesting to see if this technique works to increase our number of hits. I will let you know about other techniques as I dare to try them. |
