Scripture: Proverbs 8:34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, writing at the posts of my doors. Through the years I’ve learned how to read the faces of the people around me. Sometimes during Sunday church services I slyly watch other people, amazed by the love I see shining in their faces as they sing the hymns, listen to the sermon or follow the pastor in prayer. I saw the same things in my grandfather’s face. While not a church-goer he was a deeply religious man who often sat on a backyard bench with his eyes closed and his head tilted up to the sky. Usually his lips would visually move but no sound was heard. He prayed to Jesus about everything, and I mean everything. He prayed about the dog down the street that got into his trash every week as well the propriety of buying gas at a station where it was two cents cheaper than the gas at his regular station. We all laughed when he told us God answered his prayer, telling him it was OK to purchase gas at the cheaper-priced gas station. He then told us someone in the station owner’s family was sick or needed something, so we knew Grampa was sent there to offer them help. Grampa not only listened to God’s instructions, but he heard them obeyed them. In doing so he often found places to serve God through action. Should you do any less? Prayer: Lord, we need to fine-tune our skill in listening for your directions in our lives. Help us hear you better. Amen. ---written by Anonymous
