The biography of Carol V. Holsoe- Danish (1863-1935)

A highly acclaimed artist of the Danish school, Holsoe paints landscapes, genre scenes and interiors. The son of famed architect Niels Peter Christian Holsoe (1826-1895), the fine arts were in his blood. At first a student at the Academy in Copenhagen from 1882 to 1884, he later studied under the Danish master Peder Severin Kroyer (1851-1909), the master of light and figures. The famed Hammershoi also had a profound impact on Holsoe's art, as did the paintings of Vermeer.

In 1888, Holsoe exhibited for the first time at Charlottenborg, a well-known and respected art gallery in Copenhagen, and began receiving the first of several traveling grants from the Academy.  Winning an horoable mention for his work at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1889, he was also awarded a medal in Munich in 1891.  He showed his canvases at a variety of locales, including a 1904 exhibition in Dusseldorf, a 1907 show in Berlin, and London in 1907.  He participated in events in Munich in 1891, 1892, 1901, 1909, and 1918.
