OPEN YOUR EYES

By beanerywriters(11,675)

Visitor Hugh Kerry Lipsius is back again with a new poem.

Open your eyes

Can’t you see that we’re all the same?

It’s only our shoes that are different;

The dirt they show from the road we were on;

The hurt they show when the soul is gone

In a world that will wear it away.

Can’t you see that? Look inside

Our shadow of sorrow sewn to our heart,

Curling up to die;

Not for who we are, but what you won’t see.

We’re all the same if you would look,

But your eyes won’t see what we do;

Like shattered glass and broken dreams,

Long bent, long spent and

coming apart on the outside.

Just look in our eyes to glimpse our heart

We’re all the same, but I’ll be less than,

So that you can think you’re more.

You can’t see what you don’t want to,

But you can’t say that you don’t know.
