| The posting of the minutes of the March 9, 2007, meeting of the Beanery Writers Group are being posted quite late. I apologize for the delay. Carolyn During the first hour of our meeting we enjoyed hearing George D. Shuman answer questions about his first novel, a murder mystery “18 Seconds,” and about his writing style. We made certain he left at 2:00 p.m. for his meeting in Johnstown. He refused to allow us to treat him to his coffee. A photographer from the Latrobe Bulletin took pictures. Claudette brought a friend visiting the area from Louisiana. Last meeting I said I discovered home-schooled students blog a lot, and I suggested we explore having a contest for them. I spoke with Olga Herbert, director of the Lincoln Highway office, and she is enthusiastic about the suggestion and the possibilities, and is “in” on the project if we decide to pursue it and choose the Lincoln Highway as the topic. She’d actually applied for a grant (the funds dried up and no grants were given) to do something similar with public school students. She asked about cost and the only cost would be any prizes. The Ligonier Valley Writers group is sponsoring a writers workshop on March 25. Ed Kelemen will direct a Police Procedures for Writers workshop, 3-5 p.m., at St. Michael’s Church in Rector. Visit their web site: www.ligoniervalleywriters.org for further information. The Mercer County One Day Writers Conference is April 28 at Emmanuel Christian Church, Stoneboro, PA. Keynote speaker is Gayle Roper. Visit their website http://stdavidswriters.com/mini or www.gloriaclover.com. Cost: $38 (by April 2). It is a Christian based conference, but does excellently on writing studies. There is a writing competition. To celebrate our anniversary there was a drawing for two writing books, won by Sal Shirey and ????. The meeting was adjourned on time. The next meeting is March 23, same place, same time. |
