NOTICE: The Beanery Writers Group is on “spring break.” The meeting scheduled for April 28 is cancelled. Three members are attending the day-long St. David’s Writers Conference in Stoneboro, and two others are going to funerals.
Hope to see you at the May 12 meeting!
MINUTES FOR THE APRIL 13, 2007 BEANERY WRITERS GROUP MEETING At the April meeting I shared what I believe are the elements of a magazine: articles of a specific or a variety of genres; an index and pictures. When the Beanery Writers Group blog hit 20,000 hits, I had E-mailed members to ask them if they favored titling it the Beanery Writers Group On-line Magazine. With all in favor of the change but one, I proceeded to put the change into effect. Almost immediately the number of hits raised about 50-75 per day. By April 12 we’d had over half the days in April having 300+ hits a day. By April 12 we had reached 23, 187 hits since we began last August. I gave Pat a signed copy of George D. Shuman’s book, “18 Seconds,” as a donation to the Indiana Public Library. PJ told us about a book she said should be in everyone's library: The Righteous, by Martin Gilbert, about the unsung heroes of the Holocaust. Some of the heroes were children, she said. She agreed to do a book review to post on the Beanery Online Literary Magazine, www.ProBlogs.com/beanerywriters. She gave me her copy of the book to loan to Bob Mendler, a Holocaust survivor (see category Holocaust on the magazine site). We passed a card to send to Bob, who is having difficulty recovering from a knee surgery he had in January. The remaining time was spent on critiques of writings from PJ, Kathleen, Joe, and Carolyn. NOTE: Since the meeting is cancelled, I won't have the opportunity to tell you what I am doing. So here goes. You may have noticed that there are two new blogs. One is www.ProBlogs.com/lmborolmpark. It is the Laurel Mountain Borough & Park Newsletter. I manage the boro information; a neighbor manages the park information (that has to do with the pool, the shelter house, the entrances and community activities). The second one is www.ProBlogs.com/CarolynCHolland. I set this up when I received the first warning that the Beanery Online Literary Magazine is reaching its limit. This site will be an archive for my Writings and Travel categories, as well as the devotions I've posted. I took the plunge to use my name and photo to develop name recognition prior to the time my novel is finished (yeah, right---I have a whopping ten pages done!). Visit each site to see what's happening. By the way, the lmborolmpark site is on its way to being listed in the top ten blogs in terms of hits---100 more hits and it will be listed at the top! Interesting, considering I didn't expect much from it, since it's basically for our local community! ---Carolyn |
