From Lamoine, Maine

By CarolynCHolland(9,534) CarolynCHolland

October 5, 2006   We made it to Lamoine, Maine, and even traveled to the beach, where all I could do was take a couple nice photo shots. We are on a mission: researching genealogy, land deeds and material to enhance the historical novel I am writing.

So no more critters, I guess. Since we are here over a holiday weekend, we expected top-rate hotel charges. It is one of the least pricey places we've stayed, the Ellsworth Motel, where we've stayed in the past. And it includes a refrigerator and microwave.

Last night we got a bargain. The motel room in Belfast was great! The decor was exensive---blue and off-white checkered carpeting, golden yellow walls, and the bedspread and curtains were, as I know, very expensive. There was a door to look out over the ocean. And it also was one of the most reasonable places we've stayed.

Today we stopped at the Lamoine city building, where Stu, whose mother we met on the last trip where Monte preached at the St. Thomaston UMC, referred us. He was very helpful at directing us to the sties we thought we had figured out and didn't!

We are now in the Ellsworth Library. We will be at the local newspaper archives, the library and the courthouse tomorrow---all day. Hopefully we can update you too.

Hope everyone is doing well.  Carolyn
