This comes from the VERY timed Portsmouth Library computers. It took me 3 of my 15 minutes to sign onto this point. The stress and pressure of knowing I will be CUT OFF at the moment the timer hits zero is inducive to mistake making, so I apologize ahead of time for errors and typos. The beginning of this trip has been visiting time. We began at Cape Cod visiting my father's cousin Bob and Monte's nephew and wife, Gaylord and Dale. We next went to the Cat and Fiddle Restaurant south of Concord to meet with Dot and her cousin Carl and his wife Mary. They meet regularly, all being closer residents than I am. I had never met Carl before. He said he had a picture of me in his mind from my E-mails and letters, and I looked just like he pictured me! He also said I looked like my mother. He knew her and my uncle when they were teenagers. It was a delightful lunch---fish with lobster sauce (OK Ed, I know I shouldn't have had the sauce---but I AM in New England!). We went on to meet Bill and his wife, who proved to be a seventh cousin twice removed. Quite distant. Monte and I were amazed at the amount of genealogy he's done on our common ancestors. We ended up eating dinner at a restaurant that was hosting a 17-member birthday party. It made it difficult to talk, but we enjoyed the company. Then the surprise visit of our trip. Sue and her husband Wayne were visiting Portland. Sue is a Des Isles raised in Wisconsin and now living in the Atlanta area. She was able, through the graciousness of her hosts, to arrange for us to meet at the Higgins Beach house she was staying at. Monte and I remembered the day I had walked Higgins Beach in 2003. He'd had to park far away because there is no parking anywhere on the beach. The visit was great, and we shared much information and I made her a CD of my Lamoine pictures. Today we visited a woman named Jeanette, who has a background on the Spinney geneaolgy. She knew my grandfather and his second wife well, and I agreed to send her his second wife's memorabilia for the historical society in Eliot Maine. We found her name through a member of the Epping UMC Church we went to Sunday morning. By! 18 seconds to go and I must post! |
