CRITTERS IN THE WALLS

By CarolynCHolland(9,534) CarolynCHolland

I co-wrote this poem with my three-year old granddaughter (Dana). One person critiqued it with the comment: Don’t you think this will scare children? Perhaps some might not like it, but considering that the most creative words came out of the mouth of a three-year old, I’m not worried...Carolyn

Grandma, what’s that noise? It’s scaring me!

Perhaps it’s interesting critters in the walls.

Critters in the walls? What can they be?

Will they come in and run in the halls?

No, Dana, critters live in the walls.
    Their scratching does no harm.
Friendly critters, these noisy things are!

They won’t hurt us. We won’t hurt them.

Maybe we’ll have to stop the critters.

The critters are red, stay out of my bed!

Can we let them out so we can pet them?

They match me! I’m dressed in red!

 Critters here and critters there,

We must get them out! We must, don’t you see?

Critters, critters, everywhere!

We must find a way to set them free!

Tap the wall, make a hole,

To see the bugs and watch them go,

Pull them out by the legs---

Throw them out the window!
