Nothing on My Own
By CarolynCHolland(9,534)
I can do nothing on my own initiative. John 5:30a NAS As I sit and write, I must acknowledge those many persons who have contributed to the words I type in my laptop computer. It is true: I can do nothing on my own. To write, I needed teachers to show me how to form my letters so what I write will be legible to readers. My typing teacher provided me with the invaluable skill that makes using my computer more efficient. Other teachers instructed me on the proper use of the English language. I was taught to read and use techniques to research material. Librarians still aid my research. The tools of my trade include pen, pencil and laptop computer. How many persons are involved in making these items? How many nations do the parts come from? Who I am enhances my writing, and I am who I am because of God, my genealogical and cultural heritage, and my relationship with others. No man is an island. Not only God but thousands of persons are responsible for the work I accomplish. I am grateful to them for their contributions. Yet the only way I can show gratitude to them is to use the skills they taught me to glorify God, and to pass those skills on to others so they can do the same. What is your work? How many people do you need to perform your tasks? How can you thank them? I thank You, Lord, for Your gifts and the people You provided to pave the way for my journey in the writing world. May what I write glorify Your name. Amen. This devotion was published in Volume 10 of Penned from the Heart, a devotional collection compiled by Gloria Clover. | |
