WHERE ARE YOU NOW?
By beanerywriters(11,690)
This poem was written by a young Fran in memory of her Aunt Kay and Kay’s six-month old daughter, Kate---who disappeared in Rhode Island in 1949 after a shopping trip. Authorities found the car (with the passenger door open), Kay’s purse and a baby blanket. No sign of the mother or child was ever found. Even today, Fran is left wondering if she has a cousin out there somewhere… Do you walk the earth, do you look like me? Do you even know you’re part of our family? Have you known only pain or has life treated you kind? Did you know you were often on your dad’s mind? Did you know he neverleft the stateWhere he last saw yoursmall and lovely face? Decades have passedsince you’ve been gone,Your mom and you, togetherbut so wrong. Fate took you bothfrom the family here;We hope you know thatwe still hold you dear.---written by Fran How timely this submission came to the Beanery Online Literary Magazine, since it shows the violence and cruelty imposed upon man by his/her fellow man has always existed. Just this week there was a triple murder/assault plus one assault in Meriden, Conn. Although the situations are different, the tragedy, pathos and loss are similar. It tends to be a small world: the murder victims, Jennifer Hawke-Petit, 48, and her children Hayley, 17, and Michaela, 11, were the child and granddaughters of the Rev. Dick and Marybelle Hawke. He was pastor at the Slippery Rock (PA) United Methodist Church for a short time after Monte and I moved there in 1969. He and Monte became colleagues after Monte changed careers to become a United Methodist pastor in 1985. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they travel this heartbreaking leg of their life journey. ---Carolyn and the members of the Beanery Writers Group | |
