Bramble bushes were about to pierce the bubble when the kite suddenly and swiftly began soaring towards the clouds above. At the same time Jordan felt herself being gently lifted up. Relieved, she leaned gently against the wall of the bubble. The bubble picked up speed with increasingly strong breezes. Jordan smiled with glee as she soared above the earth. As the field flowers receded into the background Jordan’s attention was drawn to the beauty of the thick lush treetops. “Wow!” she thought, seeing a flock of blackbirds rise from the leaves and fly past her. Being in the midst of their flapping wings was much more fascinating than watching them from the ground, but she screamed as a beak sped right towards her. “It’s going to burst my bubble,” she cried. But to her amazement, the bird flew out of the bubble’s path just in time. Catching her breath slowly, she began to relax while watching the birds land in the branches of a distant tree. The bubble rode the wind currents, taking Jordan gently landward where she could observe a doe and several does jumping about in the field. “Ooh,” she breathed gently. “Their white tails are so beautiful.” The deer skirted around a white rabbit as a collie ran into the field. The dog, playfully turning its attention to the rabbit, distracted Jordan. The bubble moved over a tree. The leafy branches hid the dog and field below. “Oh, no!” Jordan said, as she noticed the pointed edge of a forest-green leaf was about to pierce her bubble. The leaf suddenly did a u-turn as a gust of wind blew past, changing the bubble’s direction. Jordan felt herself gradually descending. The bubble gently landed her near her picnic leftovers. It burst when a blade of grass tweaked it, covering Jordan with a shower of soap remnants. “Boy,” she thought, seeing the soap on her shirt. “Do I have a story for Mom.” The Beanery Online Literary Magazine has a Children’s Writings category.
