The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann

I have been following the story of missing Madeleine McCann since she first went missing from her parents holiday apartment all those months ago. Rarely have I followed one news story so closely. I do not think a day has gone by without there being some reporting on this case, whether it be to criticize Portugal Police, discuss search efforts or to detail the fact that the McCanns are now being treated as suspects.

It goes without saying that I hope that this little girl is found and that her parents come through this terrible trauma.

Child disappearance is sadly by no means unique, but what is unique is the way the media and the public have picked up this story with it remaining in the News on an almost daily basis.

So what is behind this media phenomenon?

The McCanns have gained the attention and support of  some very high profile figures. Richard Branson being one of many. He and a few other wealthy businessmen and celebrities have shown great interest in this case and have offered their emotional and financial support. What attracted this rather select group to this case of child disappearance more than any other?

Rather skeptically I am wondering if it is the fact that the McCanns are professionals. I wonder how much interest Richard Branson and the others would have shown if the couple had been unemployed and holidaying on a caravan site. I would hope that it would make no difference at all.

In terms of this little girl being found, the more financial and media support the better. Keeping Madeleine in the public eye was apparently the reason for visiting the Pope. This part I can understand, and the religious side also, but why did the pope treat the McCanns like heads of state?

TimeOnline

Mr and Mrs McCann will sit in the front row, known as the prima fila, which is normally reserved for visiting heads of state or other dignitaries. They will be among just 25 people introduced to the Pope and he is expected to mention Madeleine prominently in his prayers.

The couple, both 38, flew to Rome in a private jet lent by Sir Philip Green, the billionaire owner of Bhs and Topshop.

Richard Branson is now reportedly paying the McCanns legal bills after they were declared arguido's by the Portuguese Police.

Skepticism aside, I sincerely hope that Madeline McCann is still alive and will be found. God Bless Madeleine McCann and may her parents find peace of mind.

Meanwhile, perhaps some of Madelein's fund could be used to help fund the cost of the Portuguese police investigation.

I just hope that if she has been abducted she is dead - rather than in the hands of pedoes.
This couple will have to face the fact they left these children alone to satisfy there own needs.
I think they should be done for neglect.
it it was you or i - in a council house, with little money going out to pub and leaving our kids - the social services would come in and take our kids and we would be jailed - why they are being treated like royalty defeats me.

God help her if she is alive - and if they killed her even accidentally then may they rot in hell
