Is America ready for a Gay President?By Creative(54,965) ![]() ![]() Posted Saturday, September 22, 2007 View All Blog Posts submitted by Creative I was reading recently about the speculation with regards to Hilary Clinton's sexuality and the accusation that she is a lesbian, which of course she strongly denies and was wondering how the American people would react to the appointment of a Gay President or if they would even allow it? There is such a strong Gay movement now with more Gay friendly employers that the question does arise, 'could a Gay person have the ultimate job and be President of the USA?' America is promoted as being the land of the free, but how free is it really when it comes to reaching the top of the food chain? According to the book by C.A. Tripp 'The Intimate World of Abraham Lincoln," America has already had a Gay president all be it unknowingly at the time and without disastrous consequences. I am of course talking about Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln has been recognised by scholars as being in the top 3 of America's best Presidents and named by many as the 1st! However despite being recognized as one of the greatest Presidents of The United States, certain segments of American culture tried to use the fact that Abraham Lincoln may have been Gay to oust him from his top spot on Mount Rushmore in favour of Ronald Reagan! The Swift Report linked above in 2005 said this: If a coalition of conservative groups gets its way, the craggy visage of the country's first gay president, Abraham Lincoln, will soon be chiselled out of Mount Rushmore. Activists say that with selective blasting techniques and a bit of re-sculpting, Old Abe can be transformed into an icon conservatives are more comfortable with: Ronald Reagan. Prior to the revelations that Abraham Lincoln was Gay via Tripp's book, the suggestion that Ronnie replace Abe was dismissed. Would the American people really erase the face of one of their greatest Presidents in what would be the greatest and most expensive 'makeover' of all time just because he may have been Gay? Don't actions and results speak louder than personal sexual preferences? Sandy Slokum, executive director of the Washington, DC advocacy group 'Defend Our Marriages' is reported as saying: If we have a choice between the image of a president who stood for traditional marriage and one who engaged in non-traditional acts outside of his marriage, I'd say we would support the first choice. Well Abe is still on Mount Rushmore but the question remains: Is America ready for a Gay President? This Blog Post has been read 473 times.
