Attack of the Mediocre QuarterbacksBy Rob Trahan(12,253) ![]() ![]() Posted Wednesday, October 24, 2007 View All Blog Posts submitted by Rob Trahan So how is it that we have entered the year of the mediocre quarterback? It can't just be injury, because Chad Pennington has been the starter all season, although that could be ending very soon. It's like half the league grabbed the leftovers off the Brian Billick quarterback scrap heap and slapped on some uniforms. Tim Rattay? Brian Griese? Vinny Freaking Testaverde?!?!? Gus Frerotte? Let's give a shout out to Bernie Kosar and Brad Johnson while we're at it. What's that, Johnson has already suited up? Did the Spin Doctors just release another CD, too? Football is a team game. Even Chad Johnson knows that. But quarterback is still the most important position on the team. Perhaps the disparity between the good and bad quarterbacks is also leading to the disparity between the good and bad teams? Is it really that simple? It is. When you have to turn to Quinn Gray and everyone in the stands immediately opens their programs to see who this guy is, your chances of success drop dramatically. When the big news is that David Carr is feeling better and may be able to go, you might as well just phone it in. Or worse, when Carr is replaced by a geriatric Testaverde and there is no noticeable decline in production, why bother showing up? I feel the worst for the fans of those teams. Does any team have better fans than the Bears? Do they really deserve the agony of having to chant GRIESE, GRIESE because it's the lesser of two evils? What's the solution? Good health for starters, A healthy Vince Young puts Kerry Collins back on the bench. Healthy Matt Leinarts and Kurt Warners send Tim Rattay back to the farm. Beyond that, hope that the new crop on its way up, the Brady Quinns and JaMarcus Russells, are really all their cracked up to be. It's either that or we're bringing back the Veer.
