A Championship Game You Need To SeeBy Rob Trahan(12,256) ![]() ![]() Posted Monday, November 12, 2007 View All Blog Posts submitted by Rob Trahan I'd like to suggest another final to watch this weekend. It's certainly going to be more dramatic than Rockies-Red Sox. There will be more excitement than Spurs-Cavs. And don't even get me started on, um, give me a sec ... who played in the Stanley Cup Finals again? Tune in Sunday and you get two of the best teams in the league. A defending champion looking for the repeat. A rematch from last year that went into overtime and beyond. Passionate fans. And no two-hour-long halftime show featuring Tiffany and the Pet Shop Boys. I give you the MLS Cup Finals. Forget David Beckham and his ginormous press coverage. This is real American soccer. Get over you prejudices and give it a shot. You'll be amazed at the athletic ability, endurance, creativity, agility and courage you'll witness. There will be heart-stopping near misses, physical battles, the ecstasy of finding the back of the net and the agony of letting one slip through. The finals pits the defending Champion Houston Dynamo against the New England Revolution. The Dynamo (formerly San Jose Earthquakes) are in just their second year in their new city and already are establishing themselves as the standard in a city which also boasts MLB, NFL, NBA and minor league hockey teams. All the Dynamo have done is win. Their fans are passionate and show up in massive amounts. In the Western Conference Finals, the Dynamo played before a sellout crowd of over 30,000 people. They play hard, aggressive and with confidence. On the other side of the ball is the New England Revolution. No doubt the Revs remember last year. They barely lost the cup, taking the match all the way to penalty kicks before it was decided. Their strength is their midfield. They're feisty, fast and tenacious. Just as good offensively as defensively. They spent most of the season at or near the top of the standings in the Eastern Conference as they focused on their goal of returning to the Cup Championship and taking what they feel is rightfully theirs. So set aside your prejudices for a couple of hours and tune in. Become more than an every-four-years-I'll-watch-the-World-Cup-maybe fan. Sunday at 12 p.m. eastern on ABC. You'll thank me for it later. This Blog Post has been read 273 times. Posted to ProBlogs.com on Monday, November 12, 2007 View other posts by Rob Trahan Comments on this blog post: No comments yet.
