Christmas Gifts for Men- what to buy men!

When deciding what gift to buy a man, it really depends a lot on the man in question. Things to consider are:

How old is he?

What are his hobbies and interests?

What does he like?

What has he been talking a lot about recently?

What does he need?

For me gifts should be about showing your appreciation and love for someone so it is worth spending a little time and effort on getting it just right. If you buy a gift that is something other than socks, slippers, dressing gown and mug with his name on it, then it shows you have put some effort into your selection this year!

Next follows a list of some areas for you to consider where your mans interests and passions lie. Each list offers a few suggestions as to what gift you could buy but you will probably think of more based on what you know about him.

• Fashion –jewellery, accessories, clothes, footwear, designer labels, watch.
• Sports – watching or playing? Season tickets to a favourite game, new kit, new piece of equiptment, Gym bag, training videos, gym membership.
• Online Gaming – latest games, new piece of kit, new game device.
• Technology – mobile phone, music centre, pc kit, something for the car.
• Music – I pod, CD’s, concert tickets, biography of favourite singer/group (if they like to read)
• Gadgets – check latest technology mags for latest bits of wizardry
• Grooming – hair products, aftershave, gels and creams, lotions and potions, yes men like these too if grooming is their thing!
• Relaxation - Spa day – perhaps buy him a massage!
• Theatre – tickets to favourite show, DVD of favourite shows
• Collectors – new piece for their collection, book on their hobby.
• Readers – new book, first edition of favourite book (look on ebay and online bookshops)
• Adventure – Special day out rallying, parachute jump, hot air ballooning, bungee jumping etc.

When considering some of the items named above, go a little further still.

I.e., when buying aftershave find out what his favourite is and if he’s running low. Does he spend hours at his PC playing games? What is missing from his collection that he’d really like? If your chaps likes his sports/fitness, what about some trendy accessories that he can take with him, to the gym/club? Sports bag, kit holder, new racket, set of golf clubs etc. How is his wardrobe looking? Could he benefit from a few extra pieces?

Be very careful when clothes shopping for anyone. Check sizes first and keep all receipts. Most importantly do not be offended if they don’t like the item and want to take it back to the shop. Clothes are such a personal thing. I personally avoid clothes buying for others and always pray they avoid doing it for me too! If you do decide to take that leap, make sure you know: chest and neck size, waist and leg measurements and shoe sizes. For jewellery purchases, ring size.
