What happened to Madeleine McCann - it is clear to me who and how.

• The child may waken and scream when outside and the change in temperature and movement wake her.
• The parents could be in the apartment at that time or checking back at the apartment at that time.
• The kidnapper would be spotted at some point (more than once) unless the child was taken just a short distance from her own apartment.
• There may be a babysitter in the apartment.
• There may be a baby monitor.

• The McCanns had left the children alone
• The McCanns would not be back to check on the child at that time (or any of the other parents on their own children, also left alone - nearby)
• That the child would not cry out - the kidnapper came prepared perhaps with a drug of some sort.
• The kidnapper did not take the child far before he was in transport or under cover.
• There was no babysitter
• There was no baby monitor

Who would know all this about the McCann's?

• The staff at the holiday resort would know there was no sitting service booked.
  The restaurant staff knew who was at the table and who was not.
• The cleaning staff would know there was no baby monitor.
• As would the friends and the McCanns.
