Dating profiles – What NOT to include Part 1

If you are having a go at Internet Dating and are struggling with what to write on your profile then you’ve possibly already Googled your way through various tips on what to include.

But while you may find lots of tips on what to include you may not find quite so many on what NOT to include. What aspects of your profile might be ‘red flags’ to the opposite sex and setting those alarm bells ringing?

I shall endeavor to fill that gap based on my own experience of reading numerous dating profiles. This blog will form the first of two parts and will cover profile pictures.

Mens dating profile pictures: What not to show

Avoid pictures of yourself not smiling or worse looking grumpy. Women like to see teeth and a full smile let's them know you are approachable.

Unless you have a really great physique keep your clothes on and even with a great physique only strip at most to the waist (keep pants on) and ensure the scene behind you necessitates your undressed state or you’ll just come across as vain and a poser.

Displaying pics with women is ok as it adds to your ‘value’. Women like men who seem appealing to other women, but it is better not to have pics of you and your ex! That is just creepy. No woman wants to see you all cozy with an ex it’s a definite turn off.

Men often post pics of bikes/cars as trophy and status type symbols but this shows an emphasis on desire for more material and showy things rather than having a character that has substance, so you may want to rethink those. That said I do feel pics of your home are good if you have a nice home as women do like some indication of your tastes in this area. Similarly pics of you with a messy unkempt backdrop, banana skin on your dresser top, won’t do you any favors.

Women's dating profile pictures: What not to show
I have seen quite a few women who are very popular on dating sites, mainly due to the amount of flesh they have on display but then on the profiles they complain about all the sex pest messages they get. Ladies these pics tell men that you are 'up for it' so if that is not the case it's best to keep your pics as tasteful and natural as possible. If you want to have sexy pics to show chaps once you know and trust them, you can always keep them to email privately. Men will treat you more respectfully if you show that you respect yourself.

Mums and Dads
I advise against displaying pics of you and kids as there are some strange people out there and you can let people know you have kids and spend time with them without parading them as a dating 'tool'. I know many of you probably just want to emphasize their importance in your life, but  you would not in normal circumstances introduce people you don't know to your children, so why do so on an Internet Dating site?

Part 2 coming soon.

I wonder if hiding 'red flags' isn't a disservice to yourself and those that are evaluating you? If I have a banana peel on my dresser, that is who I am. Hiding that fact might bring interested ladies that could never tolerate the real me. It would be better if the ladies that did respond, responded to the real me, and not a 'enhanced' version.

Also, I had many smiling photos on my profile, but only after I added a photo that was not smiling did I get any positive response. Seems the unsmiling photo is sexy. ??
I have a feeling if I painted fake tattoos and wore a wife-beater t-shirt I'd get even more response. Go figure?

Hi Mark, I get your point, I pay heed to these red flags.

I think when it all comes down to it, creative fossil puts on a nice dress, smiles, and dares to trust.

Meanwhile, analysis continues.
