When Good Guys turn Bad - Union Highway Men!By Creative(51,613)   Posted Friday, January 04, 2008 View All Blog Posts submitted by Creative Some Unions protect their members a little too much and the fact that lives are lost in their doing so is an abomination. When Fire Service, Health and life saving professionals go on strike for more pay, what the union leaders are really saying to the Government is ‘Your money or your life!’ When these services are withdrawn (due to strike action) and substituted in some cases and not at all and in others by untrained individuals, lives can and are lost as a result. How is this different from terrorists who takes hostages and demand a trade off? When a house is on fire and people need rescuing, the chances of the Navy being successful at that rescue compared to the trained Fire Service professionals is surely reduced, as is cutting people from a near fatal car wreck.
Yes the Fire People should be paid more, but if they apply for a job and the wage is known upon acceptance, to then later refuse to work unless it is substantially increased is disgraceful and unacceptable and why this country has tolerated this type union ‘ransom’ action for so long is beyond me. The men and women involved have very little choice as once in a union they are bound by their rules as I understand it, that or face being called a ‘scab’ and alienated from colleagues. I say to union members, say NO to your union!
