Big Brother – Celebrity Hijack

The new UK spin on Celebrity Big Brother (now scrapped) is Celebrity Hijack, which started last night on channel four in the UK. The idea of the show is that the non-celebrity contestants are under the watchful eye and instruction of celebrities.

I have both praise and criticism for this new show based on last nights first show. I praise the choice of contestants as they are all highly gifted young 20 something’s, that each have very unique talents and abilities. This is such a refreshing change from the no talent contestants of recent years and worse the alleged celebrities from Celebrity Big Brother who we struggled to identify, as they were so obscure.

So far I have noted a brother and sister circus act. Their act seems to be at the higher quality end of the circus act spectrum and it will be great to see some performance art from them on the show in the future. They have a handsome young amateur boxer, who will be a hit no doubt with young ladies all over the UK. They have a dancer, a racing driver, a few muscians, a Mensa member beauty queen, young business entrepreneur, high achieving art student to mention but a few. The banter is so far interesting but I wonder how interesting it will be in 10 days time when they have exhausted talking about their gifts, which is all they seemed to do much of last night.

The criticism is that the celebrity Big Brother section of the main show wasn’t presented well. They had a split screen to show the celeb and the contestant simultaneously. Not really necessary, but that was the format. The result was, we couldn’t really see the actual action and I immediately lost interest and hence ended up just watching live streaming later on.
