SNOW N'ICE by KathleenBy CarolynCHolland(8,893) ![]() ![]() Posted Friday, January 18, 2008 View All Blog Posts submitted by CarolynCHolland The poem below, Snow n’ ice, snow n’ ice, written by Kathleen Clark, is fitting for those of you who are experiencing a winter wonderland through your living room windows. Enjoy! A winter storm’s, not s’nice Houses and cars are buried beneath Slippery sidewalks knock us off our feet. Snowplows rumble everywhere With a rhythmic crunch that fills the air Schools and businesses have shut down In every countryside and town. The long-legged stride of winter Tramps heavily across the pristine fields And stillness prevails as residents Watch from crystal-encrusted windows. Heavy bear claws of snow grip swaying evergreens As blustery blizzard sweeps around the eaves Hungry birds settle in clusters on bare branches Then swoop as one to peck at feeders full of seeds. Snow n’ ice, snow n’ ice Temperatures dipping to minus For sports lovers it’s very nice Skiing, tobogganing, snow tubing in the biting wind. Energetic children bundled like Eskimos Creating snowmen and angels, Sledding down slick, snow-packed hills Enjoy the season’s special thrills. Amid frigid wind and flying flakes Snow boarders twist and turn, snowmobiles Bounce and swerve over mogul ridges Cruising to a stop long after daylight. Snow n’ ice, snow n ice Becomes a double-edged knife; A smooth, cool slice of pleasure Or serrated with hardship and strife.
