Some real suggestions for improving the economy, part 2.

By Robert Melaccio, sr(28,936) Robert Melaccio, sr

A well known hero and Presidential candidate recently stated "jobs are gone and they are not coming back". He then went on to espouse his education theory. Well we have education and while it may not be the best it is not producing jobs, period. People are getting out of these training schools and colleges only to find very few openings. Why, there are none and here is the kicker. What are available as jobs are not good jobs. They are low wage, no benefit, not 40 hour type jobs that are just over minimum wage. Yes, when government says they produced x number of new jobs they never qualify them but average Americans know only too well what these jobs are and who gets the good ones.

So along with my other suggestions and to get the economy moving and to help America and Americans, something unique, no, I propose we resurrect the Civilian Conservation Core or CCC. What was that? Well a well know Democrat named Roosevelt who took over after the great depression understood he had to get people back to work. So he created this agency. Do we have to wait for one before "our" leaders react?

What it did was take young and unemployed people all across this land and placed them into a military type organization called the CCC. My dad was one along with his buddies. It took them off the street corners of Brooklyn and placed them upstate NY. For this they received uniforms, clothing, medical treatment, just like the military. They we given military equipment and support and advisors and get this they had an income to help their families and also their nation. Pride, self esteem, net worth returned to hundreds of thousands. The bill collector was no longer outside their window.

What did they do? Well anyone who has driven through upstate New York knows that the bridges, parks, infrastructure was done mainly by this agency and their people. They came out of this program with varied trade skills and much of what they built remains today and is enjoyed by many.

This agency could also serve in times of natural disaster, thus reducing the drain on National Guard troops and freeing them for military or police type actions. They could do cleanup, repair, emergency services, etc and they would have the skills and be a ready work force. They could serve a predetermined ‘hitch" and we would give them the option of serving longer, such as we do the reserves.

Now what did it accomplish and what will it do for us?

1- gave people a job and hope.

2- paid them a salary to survive and feed their families.

3- gave them a continued diversified education.

4- produced a return on investment for the nation by rebuilding its infrastructure and at a significantly reduced cost.

5- Took people off the streets and unemployment roles.

6- Put money back into the economy.
7- Produced qualified construction and other type labor for an industry in need of such. That is when this economy rebounds.

Well this costs money and where would we get it. Well consider this they have already dumped hundreds of billions into bailouts for corporate America. They are intending a tax refund when they don’t have to [see my first article] so there are ways to fund this program. They will give this to those who have. This will not help the crisis becuase working people, average Americans no longer have good jobs or hope. In my opinion something these elite school graduates don't seem to recognize or grasp. Do you think it is theory or real life being tought in these elite education bastions? Yes, they can minipulate money so let them find a way.

How would we implement it? Well legislation could also be resurrected that enable it to be formed in the first place. Why reinvent the wheel? It may have to be tweaked but in most cases the entire agency, how it works, is funded, etc has already been done. It could become operational in short order, that is if we have "real" leaders?

Now this is not the total answer because America needs real jobs, not these $7.00 and hour jobs these business people laud about. Yet, it is a path to keeping the economy sound and it is a first step and one that could remain as a foundation or start point for young adults.

My suggestion concerns illegal workers always referred to as immigrants. Immigrants go through the legal process. Here it is in brief.  Let them register and stay on a worker card, for a fixed assignment period. No rewards, citizenship, amnesty and they get to the back of the line if they even want citizenship. We can show compassion because we are just as much as fault for encouraging it and not fine them. I will impose steep fines on employers who hired them and even steeper if they laid off an American for a cheaper labor and jail time if they continue.  These worlers can then compete with Americans for jobs that pay the same to all as required by law. Nothing less. Americans get first priority to them. They pay taxes and social security on what they earn and are entitled to it just as Americans are. Mexico, the root cause, picks up the cost of their Social Services here in the USA, hospital, medical, education, and other Social needs that American taxpayers are currently paying. That frees up that money, in the billions, for the CCC project. They can pay it via oil credits. This will offset the market and help stabilize ours and provide for our stratigic reserve.  Now if these workers stay illegally and are caught they get shipped right back, do not pass go, their choice and they do not ever come back! After all Mexico, the root cause enforces their employment and immigration law why should we be expected to ignore ours? I would complete the fence, period!

I will be writing to other issues in this election as a voice for consideration of alternatives. If you agree with nay of it write back or better yet pass the site along. It is how we working together can make change. Thank you.
