Washington is broken, just when did it ever work?

By Robert Melaccio, sr(28,936) Robert Melaccio, sr

It seems there is always something to write about. Now that my other articles have addressed just who is voting why not address this excerpt from a campaign slogan in Florida as presented to a group of retirees by one of these Presidential candidates. Rhetorically might we ask, just when did the bulb go on and that was realized?

In fact it was reported 90% of all Americans agreed they weren't doing their job. However, I don't know how anyone could believe that by nature of the voter turn out, can you? Rhetorically could it be that these are but a fraction of all voters, the die hards, who voted? Even so, why is it that these politicians who call themselves leaders all of a sudden recognized Washington is broken? Was it when that one from a southern state switched his opinion on illegal "immigrants" but still doesn’t understand they are illegal workers and not immigrants? Was it when that other fellow from out West said, I got it, build the fence first, but forgets to tell us what he would do with Comprehensive Immigration Reform if he is elected? Is it any of the others that speak about bringing back American jobs but never mention what kind? When was it that one who ran businesses and fixed them realized this?

It goes on and on. Yet when one looks at the numbers who voted it is only a fraction of all who are eligable to vote. Yet, can it also be possible that all voters evidently like them and really agree with them and what they are doing or will a great majority in November stay home and not vote? So what is it that would make these voters turn out to vote for these same types? In my opinion there can be no difference in the entire lot, politician or voter. Rhetorically, are they both talking out of both sides of their mouth? We understand they say they are fed up and unhappy. They say they want change. Yet, the real fact is do they really know what they want?

Quite frankly if you had to say it man to man in my opinion they are birds of a feather. It just must be so if they go out and vote for them, as if they really say something of substance. I will change, change what, how, when? We need this and we need that, ok, how, when? We need to do this and we need to do that and the nation needs. Ok, how and when? Beats me, I haven’t heard much have you? Not even the press has heard it but evidently these voters have? Why can't they do it now. All of a sudden they can push through a saving bill for the exconomy but can't do much of anything else, strange, no?

So many sit and wonder how these voters profess their disapproval in one breath and vote for anyone of these in the other? Is it they were once Republican and now they are voting Democratic, or vice versa to make a change, is that really a change, if it is, what type of change? Is it that they If you hide thier voices and face and you wouldn't know who was who, Democrat or Republican.

In my opinion is really it is quite simple. There really is only one conclusion. It must be that they are really not that upset. Worried perhaps, but not upset. So just when did they wake up to find Washington is broken? When they hung that sign? Was it when NAFTA went through? Was it when we went to war in Iraq to find those weapons of mass destruction and didn’t find them? Was it because there are twelve million and upwards of many more illegal workers in this nation? Was it when Katrina struck and our Government couldn’t respond? Was it the money in the fridge or the alleged gay Senator in the stall? Was it when most of our real manufacturing, heavy industries moved off shore along with the tool and die making, technology and a host of other industries which are all but gone? Was it when they found out we owe billions to China? Was it when Boeing moved a manufacturing plant to India that makes jet fighter parts? Was it when they heard of the proposed SPP treaty? Was it home foreclosures, usurious credit card interest and fees, ARM’s. or was it when the bridge fell down? So, tell us just when did they find out Washington is Broken?

So, in my opinion there is a little confusion here. If, as this candidate claims, Washington is really broken, just what makes these voters think the same group who broke it can now fix it? So, let me get this streight,  that home you built is falling down and you want to hire the same builder to repair it? So, in my opinion it only enforces that which is a foregone conclusion, that things will not really change. It won’t because regardless of what people say these same types have the approval of the American people to continue, regardless of the party. The only thoing that will change for sure is the President.

Yes, in my opinion some change might come, but come superficially and as required, just enough. No, nothing of substance and certainly not for those who need it most in America, the have not. No, we will continue the walk the road we are on. Why, because like I stated that is the road Americans evidently by the nature of their voting really want to be on. Logically, it really cannot be any other way.

Perhaps we should be fair and look at it from another perspective or say it another way? Rhetorically perhaps we should not say it is Washington that is broken but the American voter. Why think that? Well they who we elect only do exactly what We the People evidently approve of and want, or better yet, allow. Is that not fact? We vote them all in year after year, so how can Washington be broken? In fact they should be getting high grades.

So here is an example right off the press or I should say before the press was printed. The debate last night demonstrated these facts. These three democratic candidates thought 30% or more interest on Credit Cards was NOT immoral. No, they actually voted for it, or higher. Does that say anything and if not what does?

Concerning Health Care for illegal workers that will be handled when they handle Comprehensive Immigration. I suspect this was a slip of the tongue because to mention that is a death bell. As for everyone else, all Americans, it will be mandated that they will have to buy it. I only ask this simple question, with what? Will that be on that at $6.79 and hour job?. God help us what is left, the Republicans?

So I part with these words, Hosta la vista baby. I think that is fitting in relationship to where in my opinion we are heading as a nation. That is if you get my drift? Any thoughts? Oh, no comments? I understand, like you, there is really nothing more to say.
