Finding fun where none can be found Seeing dragons when non-exist
Fighting monsters with robotic fists
In a garden, room to play
No one minds that they play this way But in a classroom where quiet is a must
Exuberant children are often cussed
Sit down Tommy
Quiet Jenny Hands in laps
Turn off those taps!
It’s hard for them to turn off their minds
When they whirr around full of new finds Hard to be quiet when they see so much wander
Hard to sit still when there is treasure to plunder
While we help these live wires to the stillness adjust
Let’s not squash their wanderlust Let’s keep alive that which makes them great
As in the future these children will decide our fate

I have been assisting in a classroom at my daughter’s school, and it's lovely to see how rich and vivid some of the children's imagination is. They are always the loudest, the ones with the most energy, and the ones who can barely contain their excitement, enthusiasm and exuberance. I would never wish to see that taken away. I wonder what great artists, designers, and engineer’s they might be in the future? Fortunately at their still young age, their environment in the classroom still accommodates their wanderlust, but I wonder how that will change as they go through the years. I hope the system doesn't change them.
