You now have the audacity to say you can bring change.By Robert Melaccio, sr(28,936) ![]() ![]() Posted Monday, January 28, 2008 View All Blog Posts submitted by Robert Melaccio, sr I think it is time I expressed an opinion to those who profess they are our leaders and those running for office as to how I and many average Americans feel about what is going on in this nation. Well I think that I can say as an average American what means the most to me it is my family, my, nation, my God, the place I live and the place I grew up in and my friends. It is the American dream, freedom, a good paying stay here job, a home, a car, prosperity, security, health, that is America to me or should I say, was. Yet, in the signs and symbols of this day what has America become? Where has it gone for many average and the poor? For those who make up about 15 percent of all americans who have seen their dream vanish, never to return, as that presidential candidate said, "I will always tell you the truth" and that he did. Only he left out he was part of it going. Well, for those who have, it has gone no where. In fact to quote one who responded to an article, "I’m supposed to work my butt off so some poor slob who doesn’t want to work can get everything he wants"? Well just what does that mean, who knows? I suggest if he is so unfortunate to become one of those poor slobs, something he doesn’t expect and I sincerely hope never happens to him, then perhaps he will know what Free Markets as applied in this age are all about. However, my ideals have remained consistent and the same as many Americans. TV shows like Extreme Makeover remind me that there are still many good people in America. Yes, poor slobs as this man stated just trying to make it for their loved ones on $8.00 an hour when their $20.00 an hour job went offshore or to Mexico and who is undergoing a boom. In fact by nature of truth these are the real people who give in time, talent, treasure and "that’s a fact Jack" as the movie line goes. Yes, you have don’t believe that, one of many things you don’t evidently want to believe. I and many have come to understand that the America we knew and appreciated has gone. It is gone and that is fact as that well know politician stated. Certainly it has not in the hearts of average and poor people all across this land that still hold those dreams and values and implement them in their works. No certainly not. Yet, it went a long time ago with the Global, Free Market ideology. Now the concept is not what I object to, it is the application methods. Oh sure for their families and their close friends it works fine. Money has only one allegiance and that is in making more money. However, when it comes to trickling down to the masses of average, in my opinion they have wondered far from it. They are of one thought and they know no other method, Free Markets, which is really trusting people and nations to be fair and not greedy. ie, China. Sadly what they do not recognize or perhaps they do but ignore is what they have lost in my opinion, which is character, morals, integrity. It shows in the 90% disapproval rating of all Americans. Money and trade is their idol and where their heart, their God. Yes, in my opinion they were indoctrinated in the classrooms of the rich and elite and idealist talking theory, and forgot about one key element, people. Now when they come to solicit your support their smiles are hollow and empty, their deeds cold and callus, their words empty and false. Like I say, the Easter Bunny all over again. Good on the outside, hollow within. Average Americans care not what they say, what they profess any longer. In my opinion it is a mute point if they at one time came from humble roots or average families, that is all long gone. As for those who never experienced average or poor, they could never comprehend what I am saying. Oh sure they can say they understand, feel or recognize but those are hollow words. No they never will. Like someone losing their home that hasn’t ever had that experience, no you never will. To someone who pays 31, 32 or 33% or more as interest fees and going from their making payments to falling behind, no they will never know or understand. No, to those making $60,000 and $70,000 and upwards of hundreds of thousands and of course millions of dollars a year, you will never know what average people contend with and frankly few in my opinion really care. No, you will never know what scraping pennies to put gas in the car, not eating lunch, not having a nickel in your pocket, taking from here to place there to pay an electric bill, keep a roof over your families head, help your grand children and your family. What do you know when a grown child and a man gets sent to a job interview that pays $7.00 and hour and they say "we’ll let you know" we are still looking and we promise to get back to you and never do. Looking for what, someone with a Masters Degree? No they don’t understand when everywhere that these politicians hold up as agencies of the government are but hollow shells and images of them, Easter Bunnies, hollow, empty and ineffective by opinion and experience.
No, perhaps at one time you experienced it and yes we can accept that, but it is in my opinion far from what you do now. Oh good intentions may be there for some. However, what your works do does not equate to what you say and therein lies the fallacy many do not want to accept, but it is what it is and by your hand not mine.
Now I am not using this to preach any religion but I do think it is appropriate to express as enhancing what I am speaking to. In the book of David the great King of Babylon, the ruler of that time of the entire world is told, "you have been found wanting" and so in my opinion it applies here. In your pride you have brought this upon the nation and now you have the audacity to say to all of us you have the answer for change. Its Washington and not you. Are you not part of that inner circle? That you had no dealings with them in some other governement capacity or the powerful outside of government? Excuse me, did you not work with these people on law and deals? That now you are the one we should trust?
You who by your deed allowed the dismantling of America piece by piece. You who looked the other way while laws were broken, who did not call sin what it is, who wants to reward sin and the breaking of law. Who do not find usurious interest rates and fees immoral, yes you who took and oath before God to preserve and protect the law and even some who profess God and stand there and tell us you have the fix for what you brought down upon average folk and the poor. A fix for exploitation of children workers around the globe, tainted toys and food, the needy and the environment? Yes all the while you gained riches and stature and all in the name of Democracy and help.
Average Americans see it another way, in the name of profit and exploitation while you profess you did not have a hand in it? That you could do nothing, well what makes you think you can now or that we should trust you or want to? Why, when the fruits of your labor are strewn in the bankruptcy courts, the mediation rooms, those who make money off the backs of those in trouble, why would we believe you? Please give us an answer? What are we missing?
So, in my opinion it amazes many how you can stand there in your pride and frankly arrogance and bellow it? It amazes many are of the same ilk who eat it up and believe what is said. Rhetorically, does it not speak to the character and moral fiber of this nation? Now are we judging? Well not in my opinion. What I see as the signs and symbols you have propagated by your works and deeds. What you have actually done and what you have actually failed to do. We do not pretend to know your heart or reasons but only your works. Perhaps you truly this believe this is the right way and if per chance I am wrong then in my opinion you can only be incompetent or have a false ideology and then I apologize. Yet I do not need you as a leader. America needs someone who’s record speaks to We The People and in my opinion this is sorely lacking in our halls of government. If they are to be who they profess to be, then the statement I failed and I will make amends is all that is required. However, if you continue in your ways then all I can say to all average Americans who feel the way I do, we are obligated to vote them all out. It is as simple as that. We may not do it but if we are who we say we are as men, believers and for our family and faith and nation and our way of life then this we must do for all and at least try.
