The life and times of someone without BroadbandBy Creative(51,653) ![]() ![]() Posted Sunday, February 03, 2008 View All Blog Posts submitted by Creative Given that there are still people in this modern world of ours without Internet connection, I find myself strangely affected by not having broadband and having to return to the grim dark and slow paced life of dial up.
How quickly we adapt and accustom ourselves to new technology and relinquish our ability to enjoy some of the simpler things in life. Such as not being able to be on the phone, downloading music and viewing a slide show at the same time as chatting to a friend on MSN. Now I am forced again to enjoy signing in and out of dial up, in case someone wants to reach me by phone (though I had told them to send a text) and have to wait nearly 2hrs while an update for my program downloads. Meanwhile I can only dare risk viewing one website at a time or the whole thing packs up and I have to close down the Internet connection and restart.
So, how did it come to pass that I found myself without broadband for this protracted period? Well I was on AOL, enjoying broadband one moment then in a second it was gone. Four days of phone calls to India and Ireland and still no broadband. Two engineer visits and still no broadband. New equipment and relocation of devices and still no broadband. So I had no option but to cancel my subscription and settle for AOL dial up. It has been this way for a couple of weeks now. At first I thought I could manage. It was a novelty, sitting back in my chair, relaxing, staring at the screen patiently waiting for my website to load, waiting, waiting, waiting, freeze, begin again, waiting, waiting.... However, frustration and desperation is forcing me to try again. Now I am booked with TalkTalk to reconnect to broadband on the 11th Feb, wish me well readers, wish me well! This Blog Post has been read 300 times.
