Military Spending is the shortest way to increase profits and jobs.

By Robert Melaccio, sr(28,936) Robert Melaccio, sr

What better way to boast the economy with an infusion of jobs and money and still make profits go up then in using the defense industry. This is a win, win for government, big business defense and We the People.

Why, well We the People push billions into what our leaders neglected for years and everyone is happy. Low end warehouse and logistic jobs are created as well as some more highly skilled technical ones and that in effect has a double impact on the negative economy. Money gets back into the hands of people at all levels and for a longer duration. Not all but some of the people. That is of they don’t give those jobs  and buy materials to and from non Americans? It certainly helps the nation and our people in the military.

Like a light just went on Americans are just now hearing our stratigic reserves are woefully inadequate and strained to the limits in equipment and manpower. Could they not see the signs and symbols all about? They have been that way for sometime and to think this has just come about is naive to say the least. As I stated, in worse shape is the manpower requirements to sustain the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, along with our other Global commitments as peace keepers and defending someone else’s borders. That is while no one looks after ours. Perhaps it is time to bring many of them home who are still defending others that no longer need our troops and can afford to pay for their own defense?

Now while military spending is a plus and cost a hell of a lot you won’ find that much of an argument coming from me. Hey, if last nights lead opening into the Super Bowl did not stir your patriotism then nothing will. As for my writings it has always been just about that. Idea’s, deeds, works and ideology and not so much of what they say or how they look but what they do, their works is important to me and this nation.

Yet as they and we and those educated know, without long term sustainable decent good paying stay here at home jobs this economy is hurting bad and it will continue that way. Yes and even with all the rhetoric they can’t turn the jobs out that they want to in short order. They may be on the right tract but they are on the wrong end of the timetable. They need it now.

Our manufacturing and industry are gone, period and we all kow that. We are by definition a third rate industrial power. Oh, I'm sure we can nuke them but we don't even have enough troops to finish the job anywhere and certainly not in equipment. Just ask the guys in harms way.

So, I do think they are missing the boat with my earlier proposal on re establishing a CCC type entity to serve in support to the National Guard and State militia, especially in times of emergency and disaster. They could be directly commanded by the state and under that command, Corps of engineers, the Governor of the state thus leaving the military wing in tact for other contingencies.

It will also provide employment for young adults while, providing health care, pay, and skills of varied types while allowing those who wished to continue on with their education a choice. Better spent there then on unemployment and especially with a decaying infrastructure whih needs immediate rebuilding. It will take many off of the streets and instill a new discipline in many and provide a skill and expertise and a trade they can use all their entire lives.

It will also serve small communities with the opening of training centers which will bring and infusion of dollars and the creation of small businesses in towns where these centers will be established. That will lead to employment within these businesses. Lets look at older sites like Ft. Drum, Ft. Dix and some of these other bases but a shell of what they were. They can be reconstructed and rennovated using this new source via training and support. Real skills in building, masonry, plumbing, electrical, engineering and all the disciplines associated with small and large construction can be taught and learned. This will provide a ready work force to serve out construction industries and construction companies for years to come.

I think Obama has spoken to something like this and by using service for education credits. I am speaking to it being more of an established force and within a very reasonable time. It would allow yooung adults to serve their nation. Enlistments could be for 12 months active, to career and retirement to inactive reserves for a fixed duration. During times of non emergency they could help provide infrastructure, build low income housing, assist with construction of government facilities and in effect be a cost effective pay for itself entity. As I stated they would provide people with short and long term, decent paying, future opportunity and jobs. To support this they would need the administrative and logistical and support elements as would any military type force thus providing valuable work skills to other business regimens and for people who now have limited skills. Computer, CAD Design, Planning, and all the elements and fundamentals of sound project management and implementation. Yet, above all training, skills, work and pay.

So how can this be done in short order. Well like my prior article, resurrect the program long since filed away. The laws for its creation and how it functions, the wheel in essence has already been made, so no need to do it over. Open the file cabinet and tweak it. If we can throw billions at people to spend we can throw billions and get a return on investment that all of We the People at every single level could use. It will touch every single industry and especially the housing and construction supply businesses and families on the low end.

So in this regard I approve of the military spending and suggest this president give thought to what I have proposed. If you agree then pass it along to your representatives. If not then thanks for reading.
