America of yesterday verses today and ‘the common good’.

By Robert Melaccio, sr(28,936) Robert Melaccio, sr

The framers of our Constitution were very explicit about not getting entangled with foreign powers. It was a profound warning and it was a foundational piece of what was to form our Republic and to lead to its success. Well many will say a different time, a different era. No, what they were talking about was the historical differences in those societies and what it represented to relationships between nations and a nations people. Yes, frankly their perspective was new, different, not to be found anywhere else on this planet. It was a government formed  for the "Common good". Yes, the rest of this world has never accepted that premise. Oh, I’m sorry, in my opinion only those who have a common good called "greed". They do work together well to that end.

Take Great Britain, a Democracy. There are so many varied cultures and opinions and beliefs living within that nation they no longer have a unified focus, goal, objective. They are constantly changing that government via coalitions with factions changing to and fro to suit their own agenda. Democracy yes, unity no, common good, long gone. Ok, still do not think so, well read the papers. Just now in Pakistan you have the very same situation. Fragmented parties, varied beliefs, no unity and scrambling for coalitions to be formed. Take India, Italy of for that matter all over this world where Democracy rules and what real freedom or progress do you see?

Now I keep going back to Republic verses Democracy because there are key differences. Well let me elaborate and if you have read my earlier articles you know what I am writing to. I have spoken to if this nation is to fall it will be from within and by our own hand. Do I think it is intentional, no, but yet history will be the real judge. I believe it is a misguided ideology that is works fine for the haves of the world but not the common people nor for the common good. In concept it would work if fairness, justice, equality, morality and love of neighbor were actually applied for the good of all. Rhetorically one can presume that will never happen in my opinion without divine intervention. It is also by nature of works that we have swung toward the worlds system of government verses our Republic. It is all there in the solutions these candidates offer. Yes, the Easter Bunny on the outside all packaged for sale and hollow on the in.

So what forms this belief or opinion of mine and others that we are on the wrong path? When a nation is divided as we are and we are right down the middle. Fragmented in culture, opinion, beliefs, opinions the only thing that could ever hold them together is a unity of common purpose and for the common good. It is etched in the fundamental words of our Union and the Constitution. We the People elect a government to represent We the People, not we the business or ideology. We elect representatives  to carry that ideal, goal, agenda forward for the common good of us all and nothing else. That is for the benefit of all citizens to the pursuit of life, liberty and  happiness, provide for OUR common defense not the worlds and secure those unalienable rights, God given for us all and our posterity. Do you sense that happening?

However, when government ceases to act for the common good in their works and deeds, they are by the very nature of those works no longer entitled to represents us. They have by those deeds placed the interests of foreign powers over that of Americans. Those actions have resulted in severe economic damage and harm to a substantial portion of Americans and effected "the common good of all Americans" and possibly our posterity.

Now many will profess those in Cuba long for our system of Free Trade and capitalism. Well what do these poor people have? They have what they have sown by their own ignorance and following blindly without knowing. It was the easter bunny and everything on the outside seemed great, promising and offered hope, sound familiar? Certainly they fostered it upon themselves and that is a key point. Have they forgotten why Fidel ever came to power? I believe the answer is yes. They are not of that generation who lived under Battista. Was it not the same there then, the haves and the have not which brought Fidel to power? Corruption and greed in any system creates the environment for exploitation and subsequently turmoil and strife. Is our system better? Well the answer is yes with a qualifier. When it works for the common good of all and eliminates greed.  In life the common good translates into TEAM. Be it business, church or any activity requiring the unity of people to be successful. Yes, the Common Good first, me second!

So I offer this opinion as to the causes of failure in our system. Of course greed and corruption head the list. However, I will be kind to our leaders and say boldly in my opinion idealism and  indoctrination are the chief culprits as is a live for the moment me society that wants more and more. Others just may have other words for it that are even harsher.  I attribute it to those. Our government officials are elected to be Of the People, by the People and for the People an nothing short of that in all they do. Is that so hard? Yes, if it favors anyone or thing over the interest of making it easier and a better life for the common good of all Americans they are wrong, period! They do not get paid to spread ideology or listen to paid lobbyists who have only the common good of business in mind nor create Democracy elsewhere. That is for those nations citizens to do.  So, can you my fellow Americans tell my from your heart of hearts that these Representatives of ours placed the common good first and that this has been the case? Have ween seen it in their works and deeds? Yes, do demand and really expect change from the same lot that will return and brought this upon us all, as if by some miracle it will come to be? Then in my opinion you are ready for a Fidel.

So what do we really see here? Yes, now today? That’s right for those of you who open your eyes, your ears and want to see and understand. We here in America by fact have a nation divided. Yes, while true we were and are a nation of legal immigrants from all over the glue has weakened. What do I mean? Well the fabric, the one uniting force that held it all together was a belief, a desire, a commitment to our government and way of life for the benefit of all and as I said above for the common good, the common defense, the common welfare. We all prospered not just the few becuase of that belief. However, sadly and in my opinion and by their deeds shifting our governmental beliefs toward that of the worlds systems, socialism and their way. Think not my friends then think hard and again. It is right before your eyes in words and yes deeds. The right to be an American said you swore allegiance to that nation and its flag and Constitution and placed it first above all others. Can you really say we have that now?

So can you tell me there are not the millions walking our streets freely, working our jobs, taking our education and social services and hating us, wishing for our destruction. Yes, like Troy we have opened the gates wide and let the enemy in. Hate of America is sewed all about and anyone can find it openly and you do not have to look hard to find it and they take even while they hate. We allow, yes allow them to disregard our laws, laws even our own officials and elected representatives ignore and cast aside. Is that for the common good of America?

No this is not about neighborhood, culture, language, families, religion which are throughout this land and always have been. No not that, but there was a difference, a major difference with these legal immigrants and yes even some illegal workers. That is they wanted and want to be Americans and they love America over their own nation and homeland. Did they forsake their roots, heritage, culture, traditions, no. Some went to war and fought in some cases against their very homeland and nation of birth, yes their sons and daughters as many are doing today. They demanded their children learn English, yes demanded and become Amricans first.  Yes, they are real Americans, all. Hispanics, Blacks, Irish, Asian, Whites no matter what all with the same desire, to be American first. Something this world will never be able to comprehend or understand if we gave them every single stick or material possession we have. They will never understand for the "common good".

So we have brought this upon ourselves. We are reaping what we are sowing. So jeer, get mad, say what you will the facts and the truth that really stirs a nation to action and strikes at the core of who a people say they are. It is right before you to accept or deny. It is not about a black president or a woman it is all about America. As Abraham Lincoln stated "Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing weather this nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure". Yes a different time, a different place the same test.

If we Americans do not pickup the gauntlet and meet the challenge and the test for this generation and yes, our posterity, perhaps there will be no other challange to meet? Now is really "the time for all good men to come to the aide of their country" for the common good of all Americans and I mean all Americans.. We need to put race, gender, religion and culture behind us and become who we say we are and for "the common good". How, change that Congress and make real change. The only thing these politicans fear are two things 1- you not spending and 2- your vote. Go out and vote them out.
