Part two, lets continue the reality check.By Robert Melaccio, sr(28,936) ![]() ![]() Posted Monday, February 25, 2008 View All Blog Posts submitted by Robert Melaccio, sr If you read my first article you will most likely be able to pick up with this one. If not perhaps you want to drop back a day or so and pick that one up first? Ok, reality and from that same bunch Obama, Hillary and McCain who say they are going to make change. Yes, they finally understand the border must be secured. Rhetorically, why do they understand this only during elections? Was this all not happening under their watch? Oh and yes, they talk about Detroit and no jobs and the need to rebuild our infrastructure but they never mention the Civilian Conservation Core or anything like that which in my opinion they can readily resurrect. No, they will repackage it, give it their name and say, hey here is my idea. You know something, many will buy it.
Yes ,are not these politicans the same one’s Obama keeps alluding to as being broken? I can’t figure it out. Hey, I don’t exclude the others, I just lump him in where he belongs. No, he is by fact on that same old tired team he berates regardless if you want to believe it or not. Yes, he does speak to everything we want to hear. No doubt about it. He talks to every single issue and he presents himself well. However, his record on Comprehensive Immigration and other issues is far from what many Americans believe. As for the others more of the same, because as he says they are the old bunch. So lets get down to reality, the real issues and how they are going to address them. What about rising fuel costs, lower real earnings, less job opportunity and poorer jobs, or no jobs, etc, etc, etc. Hey, here is another one for you many do not know as yet, car repossessions at a ten year high. I guess the banks can park them in all those empty garages they will have very soon if not sooner. Yes, I'm talking Home Foreclosures which they expect to explode this year. How about those credit cards? You know the ones many have been using to get along? Credit Card interest at 31% or more, surtax on fuel by Power Companies, education costs for college tuition, fuel at the pump going higher and higher, car insurance along with home owners insurance. Take, please do, At Will employment, a $6.79 cent minimum wage and people literally shuffling money all over to pay one and hold off another. Yes and layoffs on the horizon and get this you still believe these same ones who brought us all this have the solutions.
Ok, it is evident you need more information. So what about Medicare and Medicaid - Oh that got you older types attention, right? A new set of regulations that Governors have said will shift billions onto the backs of States already saddled with lowered tax revenue and lower tax projections due to this economy. That will cause major eliminations in services and staffs. Just what are they saying in my opinion? Well simple and pure it is let the states be the bad guys and make the cuts and take the fall. What does it mean to We the People? Well unless you really can’t think straight it means less and less services and more Free Market intervention as their solution. Yes and you thought you wouldn't be impacted. Hey you have your insurance, right? If you only knew.
This change will limit such critical elements as rehabilitation, payments to hospitals already hard pressed taking care of the 40 million plus uninsured and yes, illegal workers and their extended families and nursing homes and home health. That will mean more layoffs in about one of the few if only growth industries there has been. Do you really think people can pay for insurance or you can force them to when they can’t even pay their electric bills or put gas in the car to go to work? Credits they say. Well when and if how much will you get? The choice for health care is just like the lepers had. Go somewhere, anywhere and depart from us. Hard, no, just the truth. Do you really think subsidies and credits will really offset the costs for families and you really believe all this?
Lets move along to a budget deficit of over 400 billion these candidates will be dealing with. Yet they still say they will give tax cuts. Yes and you really truly believe that you will not get an increase as well? Have you forgotten "read my lips no new taxes"? Oh, that was the Republicans. Well they were the ones who put the tax cuts in, not the Democrats. However, we got the "trickle" and the rich got the real cuts. How about, "well we intended to, but".
Oh and how about the all important tax credits for college. That gets you happy and worked up right? You are smiling now? Do you really know who they are talking about my friends? Sounds great right. Yes, for who? So how will they pay for all of these great giveaways? That’s right, pay for them.
The fact is we can go on and on but we are in the world of hurt with no simple words solving anything. Nice talk, good slogans, presented well no substance just glitter and hope and hype in my opinion. I hope I am wrong as I continually say but as a realist I do not see it from this same bunch and believe me it will be the same bunch regardless of the leader at the top. No, until we bring back jobs, good paying stay at home jobs there will be more of the same. So go toot your horn, blow your whistle, ring the bell but reality is reality and there are very, very hard times ahead for average America and "that’s a fact Jack as the movie line goes. Who am I to be saying this? Just an average American living it the same as you. Trying to make it day by day and sliding further down. Let me add this in closing to put it into more perspective. The National Association of Realtors is running an ad on TV saying Americans home equity is the most significant and major source of wealth for all Americans. Ok, where has their head been? One year ago a person may have had $80,000 worth of equity and now they owe more then the house is worth and can’t borrow a nickel and did nothing. It speaks to it all. So go ahead my friend and celebrate. You are making history but and that is a big but in that it just may not be the history you are expecting. It all boils down to taking care of America first which is what it was always intended to be. Robert T. Melaccio Sr. Copyright ©2006 Robert Melaccio
