Recession, Election, what does it mean to average Americans?

By Robert Melaccio, sr(28,936) Robert Melaccio, sr

Frankly recession and the election really doesn’t mean much to the 40 million average Americans who are hurting financially. While we all have a hope it will in reality that is a long shot. Average Americans will in my opinion continue to slip further economically joined by those on the edge who are earning $50,000 a year.

Why think that? Well The AP reported just today consumer spending was flat once again for the second month in a row and that after a poor Christmas season. Incomes posted a .03 gain  in January due to all those big corporate bonus checks. I guess you got yours, right? Many economists are still saying we will have a recession later this year. Our President, who said he had heard gas prices were up near $4.00 a barrel doesn’t think so. He and his economists are hedging on that stimulus package to improve the economy and wouldn’t you know it right before an election. How strange is that? Some would even think that afer this summers record prices and possibly more profits for big oil gas prices prices will move down right before the election?  This always seems to come about right before an election. I guess it is good sound fiscal planning and policy, right?

Another fact not heard by many and as reported in the paper is that people are starting to tap into their retirement plans with a 10% increase this year alone. One presumes trying to stay above water. As for Wall street and those who invest here is what was reported just today by the AP, stocks fell sharply on the backs of a number of depressing economic reports, high oil prices and the stock index fell 2.5 %. Dow lost more then 315 points, AIG had a significant loss and. Mr. Hogan of Jefferies & Co, stated his company has to consider a plethora of negative news. I guess the President doesn't listen to these people he has his own? I hope they are not the same ones who brought this all down upon us?

Those making $60,000 a year should start looking for those shopping buys with your stimulus money. That is buying goods from China and India and parts unknown. As for the rest of you, well, pay your mortgage, utility or credit card down. Yes, our leaders will tell you about their forceful action to turn things around. Yes, of course we believe them and just in time for the election. One assumes they will urge us to reelect them so they can continue their program  for America. Yes and show me the jobs, the stay here, good paying jobs will you instead of just talk.

Well we know where one is. Nothdrop just got a contract with Eurobus to make tankers for the military. The majority of the work to be done in Europe producing the majority of jobs there. Don’t fret, America will get 2000 assembly jobs. Hey, we can’t manufacture her any longer and no one is interested in foreign powers making our military equipment right so at least we got something? Doesn’t India do it for Boeing on another military project? They’re our allies, right? So listen for these politicans to latch onto this as theirs and how good it is for America. Certainly the jobs are. That is if they actually go to Americans?

So what can anyone say? Why all the news about change?  Where, when, how? So here is what we know as fact. We already know who black America is voting for so why wait for November. Just gather their votes all up now and post them. No disrespect intended but the truth is the truth. Hispanics, well that is interesting because both McCain and Obama are champions for their cause, that is Comprehensive Immigration and everything else they want to give them.  Obama has thrown even more goodies into their pot. No matter if Hillary, they will feel comfortable with her as well. That vote may split but it doesn't matter. As for the over 55 crowd and retired silent majority, patriotic bunch, nothing in my opinion matters. They plug along and vote the same way year after year election after election so we can count them as well.

That will just about leave the 60% of us who do nothing but gripe. Sorry, I know many don’t vote because they have no real choice. An excellent point. Yet, you can upset the apple cart in November if you care to. Odds are it won’t happen. We allow the same ones to continually elect these people.

Well here is my suggestion anyway. You may like it perhaps not, but here it goes. Count up the votes that we have now and apply them to the candidates. Stop all the campaigning and allow the rest of us to decide iin November. Now as I stated the voters who have spoken for their respective candidates in these primaries will be the same in November as they are now so they do not have to vote again. So this 40% of the electorate who continually brings the majority what they want to and the majority allows them to bring to them has already spoken. Now to the rest, just what do you want to do?
Now I do realize while many read this, this type of article will never reach the masses unless one of you reading it spreads the word. It is as simple as that. So if you agree then that is what you need to do and also get out in November to vote congress out.  Sorry I have to repeat it but that is the only way. That is the only real change anyone can expect.

Yes, you can make an impact and a real change in November regardless of what the minority thinks. [By the way for those who don't understand how minority is used here, the minority is not related to race, color, creed or origin, just types of voters.]  So to make real change and the change the majority would like to see it requires the majority to take action. That is CCCN = Change Congress Change the nation. That is the only true change we can expect and it rests with you!
