Update: Oregon Mayor Who Stripped for Photos Now Stripped of Office

Awhile back I did a blog entry on Carmen Kontur-Gronquist, the mayor of Arlington, Oregon.  She's the lady whose MySpace page contained cheesecake photos of herself on a city firetruck.  The pictures were causing a bit of a furor among her constituents.  At the time, city council hadn't decided if this was an issue that needed to be addressed.  Evidently city residents decided it was time to take matters into their own hands.

Last Monday the town voted 142-139 to recall Kontur-Gronquist.  City officials said the recall was effective Tuesday.

Kontur-Gronquist continues to defend her position.  She says the pictures of her in black bra and panties were taken for use in a contest about fitness.  It was a relative, not herself, who posted them on MySpace, hoping they would improve the social life of the single mother.  The pictures were taken before she was elected mayor, but she says she saw no reason to take them off the popular Web site after winning the mayoral seat three years ago. Later, after multiple complaints from Arlington citizens that the pictures depicted their town in a negative light, she closed access to them.
