“In the long run we are confident”By Robert Melaccio, sr(28,936) ![]() ![]() Posted Tuesday, March 18, 2008 View All Blog Posts submitted by Robert Melaccio, sr Here is an excerpt from an article written by Terence Hunt. AP White House Correspondent, President Bush said, "in the long run, we can be confident that our economy will continue to grow. But in the short run it is clear growth has slowed". Well golly gee I am glad he found that out. Yet, just who is he speaking to when he makes these statements? Is it the unemployed? Could it be those working those low pay jobs with no benefits? Could it be those working those two and three jobs to make ends meet? How about those working what I call the 89 day jobs? You know the ones left for us unable, incapable Americans to scramble over? What we must not lose site of when this President talks who he is really addressing. Do you really think, ok I’ll say that again, do you really think he is addressing average, middle class or the poor Americans, that 40 million on or over the edge? No, if you have read my earlier work you know who he speaks to. In my opinion he is talking to the investors, the ones who have, that 20% who own it all , why, so that they won’t panic.
Now why shouldn’t they panic. Are they naive? Have they not seen some bulwarks of the investment community in trouble. Do they not see the American consumer and where they are? Do they really see jobs in the future, good, long term, stay here jobs for Americans? Of course a sprinkling here and there that they throw at us as an example of Free Trade when what we need is Fair Trade. That they do well. Let me ask, do you see those good, stay here jobs all about? If you can't see them what do you think these investors see? Yes, the long run is exactly where they should be focused because no one believes the stimulus is anything more then a shot in the arm to get through the elections. Yet, what is the long run and how will it impact America now? Well, as we well know, it won’t until they start to bring jobs home or create good, stay here jobs and hire Americans again. That is hire blue collar, average, middle class and poor Americans. No, not create jobs and give them to Green card holders or low end, cheap pay jobs handed out to illegal workers. Good stay ehre jobs for average Americans is the cornerstone of this nation and that cornerstone has broken.
So there lies their dilemma. How do they create jobs, what kind of jobs and how soon and how does that impact their global ambitions? Yes because no matter what these leaders say it is all about the global agenda and maintaining momentum. It comes spewing right out of their mouths along with the "after I get elected" one always hears, or their always talking about other nations needs before their own peoples needs.
So my fellow average Americans is this really what you believe? Is it more hope then belief? Why do you see it turning around for, no not for the haves, the average and poor and middle class? Just where, who, when, how is that going to happen? So "In the long run we are confident" is that what you believe as well? Is it that you have no where else to go and you’d rather be positive? Well I for one hope you are right. I really do. Yet I do not see it coming out of the collective thinking of this bunch. Sorry, they have had their chance and have in my opinion failed the combine. In my opinion they have their own game plan and we are not part of it.
Now I and many others prefer to Change Congress. It is not that we will get much better, perhaps just a few here or there. Yet it will send a message to them to shape up and one message they understand. It starts with one who brings along another and then another and before long there is a movement and that movement makes the change, not those who just profess and do nothing but those who act. As I have stated, if they are the leaders they claim to be, let them make the change NOW. No, we do not have to wait. Let them demonstrate by their deeds if they are who they say they are. Let them do for "the common good". Will they? Don’t hold your breath. Will you care? I guess not if you re elect them. You will be what you are by your works and what you do and fail to do, A bird of the same feathers". Robert T.
