Are these issues with this economy?By Robert Melaccio, sr(25,470)   Posted Tuesday, March 25, 2008 View All Blog Posts submitted by Robert Melaccio, sr In my opinion the cause for what is happening to our economy and nation is literally so simple it smacks one right in the face. Now that is not to say because it is that simple one absorbs or comprehends it. In fact many do not even consider this opinion or think about it. It is however, right there for all to comprehend that care to look.
Yes, in my opinion we are talking about character or competence, or both. Character is generally defined as the things that make up a person, attributes, morals the things they stand for and above all the things they do or for that matter fail to do, which can be even more significant. It is in essence their works. Competence, is that they have what it takes to get things done right. Why character and competence one might ask? What do they have to do with the economy? Well in my opinion everything to do with it. Example, while one could say they operate their business under the law, the fact that people are exploited or used, while it may be legal, can still be considered a matter of immorality or decency or a character flaw. Example, do employers really expect people to live off of what they pay for a days work? Rhetorically, does it even matter to them? Now in fairness pay is certainly relative to the job requirements. However, many must work two or more jobs. Oh, these are entry level jobs one might say. If so why are more and more faced with working them? So the question is what employers provide as a wage? Do they provide a living wage, or slightly over minimum wage, or just what the law allows? I will let you decide when it comes to worker bee's. Another aspect is how do they treat their employee’s? Do they nickel and dime them out of time and earned salary? Do they demand overtime without pay? Do they threaten or just fire under false pretext, exploit or abuse, not an issue under At Will employment as long as it isn't sexual. Do they limit, reduce or eliminate benefits? Do they use At Will employment to their full advantage? Could there be any character issues here?
Rhetorically, is it an ideology that drives them at the expense of people or simply greed? Certainly their individual records, be it person or business, speaks to who they are. The facts are outlined in my prior articles as to the systems and the works which they permit to flourish and implement depending on their situation in life, government or business. If this does not speak to character and competence then what does? Here a simple everyday experience which goes right past most. People gripe about the cost of living but few bother to consider impacts. A simple example. The Law in Florida allegedly states if you received a traffic violation in Florida, have taken a state test, or you have won your case in court, Insurance Companies cannot increase your insurance. It states it in Black and White. However, when pressing if that is absolute no one cold answer becuase theyw ere not allowed to interpret and I was deferred for a more definative answer. That proved true with potential unusual exceptions. Rhetorically, if we use common sense one might ask, why should the law deter any insurer who knows how to manipulate the law and uses that skill for their advantage? Do we stop illegal workers from crossing the border? Also, look at Home Owners Insurance here in Florida as an example. a mass in my opinion. Yes our Governor and our politicans care to rely on the market to drive everything. Does that say it all? So by experience and fact multiple agents, of different insurers allege that "companies have special arrangements with the state to allow them to do that". "They've been doing it for years". Evidently not true. Uniformed, poorly trained, connieving, who knows? Are agents talking without proof and for what reason and if true how many dollars involved in that bottom line?
Now I am quoting what these agents said. However, someone should be able to define it in simple terms yes can do, or no can't do. Now,as stated above, in checking with multiple state agencies one will get varied answers from "can't tell you", to "we don't interpret the law" to "no can do". If you want to check and have had a ticket in Florida that is, you have had it thrown out or have taken the state test just call your agent for a quote and see what you get from the insurance company. I've got quotes for the same vehicle and person from under $2000.00 a year to over $4,000 a year for the same coverage even while understanding some insures will cost more, but that much of a variable?
What about the person living off of $14,000 a year gross? The state mandates individuals carry coverage and then provides no options for people with credit or money porblems to be able to secure it. So what happens, you got it, they lose their license. Tell me that doesn't impact them and the state. Tell me that isn't incompetence.
No matter, the fact is even if your license is in excellent shape with the state, they can go back 3 to 5 years, depending on the company and dig up the grave. Just fill out the forms on the internet and leave out those cancelled tickets and see what happens. I guess one can say morality does not count when you are talking money. You see be it individual or corporation we are talking "character". Rhetorically do we see incompetence on those who work for that state government to be able to know, interpret and execute the law? Multiple agencies and no one can give a definitive answer. What do you call it? Then there is the local Cable company that issues you credit for their continued poor service, you pay and leave thinking all is well and then the next month they reinstate the charges with a late fee and tell you, oh well, pay or we cut your service. Rhetorically is this not an issue of character or incompetence once again? You issue a credit and they say we are taking it back, but and get this, "we really want you as a customer". You see even corporations have a character and we all know incompetence. So how many issues does one have to list before this message sinks in? You see, many individuals and businesses and our government see nothing wrong with their works. It is business as usual and frankly they get a little upset because just who are you to rock the boat? Everything was fine until you asked that question. Yes and get this, these types are actually quite proud about what they do or fail to do. It shows in their tone, their words, their attitudes. Yes and in many cases they applaud each other for the wonderful job they do giving recognition and praise. Yes, as Birds of a Feather why would we expect it to be any differently? Yes, "good job Brownie". Elect me and I will bring change. No just get what we have right. So when we who have an opportunity and the power to elect and we agree that we want change, need change, hope for change, why would we ever expect those, who in my opinion have not demonstrated character or competence in their deeds, to make that desired change, why? These few issues were not front page news just parts of the puzzle that placed together create that front page issue - the Economy! Yes, like fuel, 31% interest, illegal workers, foreclosure, etc, etc, etc.
No, in my opinion they even stand before us and proudly profess that which may of us are against. "I will work toward that when I am elected". Why would 85% of us ever vote for a person who professes something we are supposedly against? Why would we vote for someone who says "those jobs are gone and they ain’t coming back" when they were part of them leaving? Why would we vote for any of them, why, when their signs and symbols litter our nation?
So to me and in my opinion, it is a matter of character and competence. Will they like this opinion, why should they? Yet, it is their record not them personally I base that opinion on. It is their deeds not them personally. I could care less what they do personally as long as it does not harm anyone else but in what they do as leaders. So left me wind up with this question, just where was this so called "Comprehensive" for hundreds of years that this nation prospered?
So the issues of this nation and really of this world start with character and competence. Fail, we all do. Incompetence all about us. In my opinion it is not the system it is how that system is allowed to operate and those who run it where the failure lies. Change does not come from one person saying they will change. No change starts with us all and it requires others to do what is required to achieve that change. It is being responsible for your deeds and who you say you are. Look about, seek and you shall find. We all have our stories to tell. Think hard about why, think hard if you want to continue down this path? As for me, I see little hope because people will say "you can't change people" and to that I say, that sums it all up! Little hope unless we take it upon ourselves to make change. That is why I hold the opinion that We the People change Congress we will get no real change. Yes like a bad project it takes leadership and abve all the right people to bring about change. We have seen their works. Isn't it about time to get some new blood into that body?
