Home alone - fending off robbers or working?

In my case, I am home alone working thank fully!
I have worked from home since having my children a few years ago and it has it's pros and cons but for now this is how I want it to stay.
Despite the fact it is a tad isolated, I can fit my hours around my children and still manage to be a full time mum, part time student and get out to see my friends! So I am not a complete hermit.
I have tried various money making schemes over the years. Some quite bizarre but I think I am settling into a niche area now as a freelance writer which I hope proves to be successful as this is what I enjoy the most.
However, here is a quick summary of some of my get rich quick schemes!
Kiddytags - invention to quickly facilitate children being reunited with their parents.
Peg dollies - don't ask! These I tried to sell on eBay with zero success!
Handmade card making business - now this I had some success with. I started my own online card making club, sold a few cards in a local shop and of course had tons to give to friends and family which was a saving in itself!
I did also do some administrative work for my old employers and my exes business. All of which was easily managed working from home.
Since then I have been paid to write articles for a top job search website and published a couple of eBooks, though not for profit, and soon I hope to have a paper back on sale in the shops! But that is a long shot.
Meanwhile I continue to look into other home working business opportunities and have learned quite a bit about the type of work available. It is very wide ranging, from face painting to setting up your own real estate business! There are tons of resources to help with which ever home working project I settle on. I have more information about home working if you too for whatever reason want to try earning an income from home. It can be done and the possibilities are endless!
The over heads for working from home can usually be tax deductable and are generally low in any case, unless you need to set up a home office that you don't already have. If you decide to make something to sell later then of course you have the cost of materials and a possible cost for displaying them at craft fairs etc, but if you have a good product that will sell, then weigh up your options carefully and start small.
Make sure you keep records of expenses and income as you will need to declare it all.
Other than this I wish you well!
