NIGERIA'S FEUDING PRESIDENCY

By daretaiwo(93)

We have a democracy threatening issue in Nigeria currently and that is the animosity existing between our Prsident and His Deputy. It has gotten to a crescendo that it is only by divine hands of God that the feud will be settled amicably.

We have a President who has been most favoured by God. From a very humble background, God lifted him up to eat among Princes. He has always been the Beneficiary of the downfall of a fellow Compatriot.

He never shot a bullet during the Civil War, but when the War was almost been wrapped up, the real Hero of the war,  Brigadier General Adekunle was removed as the Commander of The Third Marine Commando and replaced with Brigadier Olusegun Obasanjo. He, it was that eventually received the Instrument of surrender from the seceding  Biafra. He became an overnight war hero.

As the Deputy Head of State in 1976, he also benefited from the assisination of the then Head of State to become the new Head of State.

As a result of the cancellation of the Election won by Chief M.K.O Abiola in 1992, Chief Obasanjo being one of the proponent of the annulment eventually benefited by riding on the need for the Country to pacify the Western part of the Country who lost out from the power game, he was literally begged "against his wish" to contest for the Presidency which he eventually won.

One may decide to ask, WHY SO MUCH TENSION IN THE AIR when he has less than one year to relinquish power to another duly elected President?

The President like all other sit-tight African Leaders,  decided to have a trial at Constitutional amendment with the sole aim of elongating his stay in Government.

This made all Nigerian of means to unite to fight the sit-tight syndrome which has also infected our President. Some of the Heroes of this fight are the current Vice-President of Nigeria and Nigerian former sit-tight Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida.

The President being vindictive, licked the wound of defeat of this ambition for a while and now, he has launch a full scale offensive against these "perceived enemies" of his third Term ambition.

Our Anti-Corruption body, which has been doing a good job of fighting corruption before now is now being used as an agent of intimidation. And as the saying goes "It is the grass that suffers when two Elephants fight". The President has extended the onslaught to include the friends of the Vice President. Nigeria's Top Business Mogul, Dr. Mike Adenuga has been at the receiving end of the feud. A man with investments worth over a Billion Dollars in the Nigerian Economy is being witch-hunted by a Vindictive President.

As 2007 draws nearer, the atmosphere is charged and tension is in the air. Nigerians are of the opinion that this onslaughts on potential Contestants for the Presidency is to create an avenue for Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to perpetrate himself in Power.

As they say, "Man proposes, God disposes" Nigerians watch as the macabre dance unfolds.
