9/11 - Is there a Silver Lining on Such a Dark Cloud?

As we take time today to remember the great tragedy that occurred on 9/11 five years ago, it would be impossible to deny that it was a horrible day. I would never want to down play the great amount of pain and tragedy that was caused by such a terrible act of cowardice and evil. However, is there any thing positive that has come out of this?

In addition to the darkness that we saw on 9/11/01, there were also many great acts of heroism performed by the police and firemen in New York and Washington DC. Even regular civilians risked their lives to help their fellow men.

Immediately following the horror, our country was brought together as "Americans" and politics were set aside.

I remember how much love was outpoured as donations and volunteer efforts were undertaken on a phenomenal scale.

I also remember how people realized the preciousness of life and drew close with family and friends.

We must never forget the pain that 9/11 caused the victims and their families. However, I hope that along with this we can remember some positives that have occurred since that time, and that we can strive to better citizens, family members, neighbors, and friends.
