A Dog Sits Waiting
By BJChips(5,371)
Every once in a while I take a break from my regular posting to put something out here that everyone should seriously think about. This is one of those posts. If you have a dog, if you are considering getting a puppy or adopting a dog from a shelter please, PLEASE be sure you are ready and able to accept the responsibility of having a canine in your home and your life. Here are some shocking numbers for you to think about. Number of cats and dogs entering shelters each year: 6-8 million (HSUS estimate) Number of cats and dogs euthanized by shelters each year: 3-4 million (HSUS estimate) Number of cats and dogs adopted from shelters each year: 3-4 million (HSUS estimate)
If those numbers aren’t reminder enough to be a responsible human and pet owner please read the following poem written by Kathy Flood. A DOG SITS WAITING A Dog sits waiting in the cold autumn sun, too faithful to leave, too frightened to run, He's been here for days with nothing to do But sit by the road, waiting for you. He can't understand why you left him that day He thought you and he were stopping to play. He's sure you'll come back and that's why he stays How long will he suffer? How many more days? His legs have grown weak, his throat's parched and dry He's sick now from hunger and falls with a sigh He lays down his head and closes his eyes I wish you could see how a waiting dog dies.
PLEASE do your part to make sure NO DOG sits waiting ! Love and Lhasa Kisses, BJ
