Taking it one day at a time

By TheOptimist(4,576)

I sometimes find myself overwhelmed. When it seems that everything must be done all at once. It is easy to be discouraged at these times and throw your hands up in the air. "Forget it, it is just to hard!"

When I was younger this was actually the way that I dealt with pressure and feelings of being overwhelmed. When I look back I think that my favorite phrase to tell my mother was "who cares?"

Don't you want to graduate?

"Who cares?"

Don't you want to go to college?

"Who cares?"

It was much easier for me to give up then to get to work. I felt that if I tried to complete everything that must be done I would fail, so it was best to just not try at all. I couldn't have been more wrong!

It is true that you cannot complete every task at once, just as it is true that Rome wasn't built in a day. The important thing is to keep working towards your goals and doing the things that you know you must at the time that they need to be done.

You only get one shot at life and we have all made mistakes. The good news is it is not too late! You have done nothing in your life that is so terrible that you can not overcome it. You are still here and you have the ability to become great.

Break your goals and large tasks into smaller, achievable goals and tasks. Take action each day towards achieving these, and note your progress.

Soon you will see that, not only are you closing in on your dreams, but you will also enjoy this life so much more.

Again I present you with this quote, which has now become a personal motto of mine:

"Today I will do everything that should be done. When it should be done, and as it should be done. I will perform the most difficult task first, because this will destroy the habit of procrastination, and develop the habit of action in it's place!"

-Napoleon Hill

So take action today, and stay optimistic!
