Independence?
By buckeye(156)
I wanted to focus away from big business for once and dabble in the genre of indie films, otherwise known as independent films. Most independent films are ones that do not receive financing from a major movie studio such as MGM or Warner Bros. A lot of times a film can be qualified as an independent if it receives less than 50% of its actual budget from a major studio. According to the MPAA, the Motion Picture Association of America January through March of 2005 had approximately 15% of U.S. domestic film revenue from independent films[1]. Here is a list of some of the more “famous” independent studios. I don’t think some of these studios can actually be considered “independent” considering they are subsidiaries of the main studios (i.e. Paramount Vantage, Fox Searchlight Pictures.)
