Rise of the Indie

By buckeye(156)

I found a great site that focuses on identifying what indie’s really are. There seems to be a certain stigma that derives from the word “indie”. I would have to agree with a lot of the comments in this article, If it's cool, creative and different, it's indieby Catherine Andrews of CNN. Catherine writes in the article, “According to critics, indie is now nothing more than a branding tool: a highly commercial and money-driven movement, more concerned with marketing a particular image instead of culture with a truly independent nature and passion for its art.”
Think about it, doesn’t it seem that films don’t shy away from the image on “indie” at the boxoffice. I can think of times when movies didn’t want the stigma of being an independent film, because people thought it wouldn’t be as good as one produced by the big six studios. I would say that after the success of such films as Narc and Napoleon Dynamite that studios don’t shy away from the “indie” label.
