Twisty's Pick of the Week for 08/11/2006

I must admit, finding my pick of the week this time was not easy. I went through all of the latest news, sorted through all of the social bookmarking sites (yawn!), thought about the Del.icio.us stat controversy, drifted off...

And then I realized - my pick of the week is right in front of me! This week, ProBlogs is my pick of the week, and here's why:

1. Great niche idea (and one that really needed to be filled)

2. Great team on board - they're quick to respond, and very nice people.

3. The options that you have even though this service is free. I'm pretty well versed with Blogger, WordPress.com, and the other free blog sites out there and none of them let you get this under the hood with your blog.

4. It's not *another* social bookmarking site. :)

So, there you have it, my pick of the week. Problogs, although there are no monetary rewards (starving writer and all that) you do have my admiration and my sincere appreciation for providing this service. Way to go and keep up the good work!

Skyrider's in Flight...

Who on earth got the bright idea of monetizing P2P networks? Skyrider - that's who...

From their latest press release:

“Keyword-based search marketing will receive a tremendous boost by operating in the P2P space,” said Mr. Kozel. “There are as many as tens of millions of unique users per day, conducting hundreds of millions of searches.” An effective search marketing platform would give advertisers several hundred million highly focused searches per day. Mr. Kozel indicated that although currently the searches are entertainment-related, in the near future, searches will include a variety of different varieties of content in many different vertical markets."

Hmm - one of the reasons people like and use P2P networks is because they're free. I don't see how they're going to turn this into a viable business model. I don't think this will work, but it will remain to be seen. In theory, it sounds good on paper, but I don't think it will make it much past the drawing board.

The reason I don't think this will work - Yes, businesses will most likely snap at the idea - and how. However, I don't think the users will go for this. And that's what really matters.
